As far as having a shot at a super bowl ring, his shot is over.
But he got his payday. And that’s pretty much all that he could ask for at this point in his career.

Point being, the team might not be a good for his career, but the timing of when he becomes a FA again might be.

Also, the Lions seem like they're trying to become a smack ball style team, which might fit to his strengths. Of course, didn't they have a ton of RBs already? That might be bad for him on the depth chart.
