Todd Gurley has been replaced by Ito Smith. I think Gurley was a top 15 pick and Ito was a fourth round pick.

I'd be remiss not to mention the obvious here. Gurley has been dinged up a lot, but damn, he's just 26 years old and already replaced.

The Rams rode the guy to death.
With Aaron Jones, he has been used a lot, but also has been spelled by Williams. He hasn’t been the sole RB.
And now if they add Dillon into the fold, it takes even more pressure off of Jones.
To me, you can’t let a guy that’s been so great for the team walk.
He’s a great RB and receiving threat. Those don’t come along very often. You reward players that deserve it. He does.

It would be a hell of a mistake to let him walk. The dude is a beast, a heck of a good person, and for the most part he is usually healthy.

Todd Gurley has injury issues, including arthritis in his knee/knees.

It's difficult to keep everyone you want. If you want to give Dillion 10 carries a game. 6 to Williams if resigned and 10 to Jones you are limiting your MVP QB from playing his game.

If it’s going to be $15-$20 million a year, I would much rather spend the money on the OL and DL and take our chances with Williams and Dillon and another draft pick.

As far as limiting Rodgers, we know both Jones and Williams are great at catching passes out of the backfield . So you don’t have to give them that many carries. You can use them in pass plays as well. It also keeps the defense honest, as just because they are on the field doesn’t mean a running play. They could be there to block for Rodgers, or go out for a pass.
We have seen how big that has been this season, right?

My guess is depending on price, we'll Franchise Tag RB Aaron Jones and see how RB Dillion is coming along. I think the Packers want them both, if they can agree to a price with Jones, which is sounds like his old agent couldn't... so he got a new agent. If Jones wants to stick with the Packers with a long term deal, he might have to take a bit below top of market value offer, which suddenly sky rocketed this year for RBs.

But I think this scheme is the best for Jones... as it doesn't ask him to pass block as much as some other schemes. Which Jones can do, but I'm pretty sure he's gotten more banged up pass blocking than any other way... plus lots of teams have already locked up an expensive RB, or high drafted RB on cheap rookie contract, so I'm not sure how the RB market would be right now.

Man, looking at the salaries and so many RB's were overpaid. This really screws up the market. I am glad I am not a GM.

Before even seeing any of their numbers I dropped him to 6. If we take Aaron's runs out of the mix they average 25 runs a game. My off the cuff scenario is 26. This leaves nothing for the jet sweep and end around plays that may prove effective. If for nothing else to hold the defense for an instant while the Packers do something else.

GB is certainly trying to keep Jones. If they weren't they would not be talking to his agents.
No team is going to give a player $10 million to carry the ball 10 times. Jones would not want to stay if he knew that's all his workload will be. Jones is going to want to carry the ball a min of 15 times a game plus receptions. More than likely he s looking for something closer to $12-15 mil a year. McCaffery, Elliott and Kamara are all at $15 mil or more.

According the AAV Joe Mixon is the 7th highest paid player at $12 mil (in 2021). I am sure after the season is over more RBs will be above that amount.

What kind of pick package could the Packers reasonably expect for Jones? If its a 1st or 2nd I think they're better off trading him and drafting a replacement.

I'm a big fan of Jones just not a fan of overpaying at a non-premium position.

Zero2Cool (10-Feb) : Eagles traded up for Carter, didn't they?
Mucky Tundra (10-Feb) : Obviously he was a huge risk but getting a top 5 talent on the dline in the mid 20s is fortuitous
Mucky Tundra (10-Feb) : Jalen Carter falling into their lap certainly helps
TheKanataThrilla (10-Feb) : And we could only wish to have this type of D
TheKanataThrilla (10-Feb) : It's not like Philly has had low draft picks, but has managed to get themselves a top notch pass rush. We spend so much draft capital of D
packerfanoutwest (10-Feb) : another crap halftime show
TheKanataThrilla (10-Feb) : I think it is over, but then I think of Atlanta and want Philly to go in with the same intensity in the second half
Mucky Tundra (10-Feb) : And with a Pass Rush that might as well be on a milk cartoon and no Jaire
Martha Careful (10-Feb) : I cant help but feel good about how well the Packers D played in Philly during the playoffs
