It's early, REALLY freaking early! But, could the Packers keep three QB's on the roster and activate just two? Jordan Love isn't lighting things up (be real here, no one expected him to) and Tim Boyle is doing very well. Keep in mind, it is EARLY. It's been two camps of the PJ olympics. They haven't even thrown pads on.

I would probably keep Boyle as QB2 and try to get him some in-game reps. Why do you say that you crazy guy?? The hope would be that Jordan Love improves enough or shows enough in camp to be able to hold the fort down in a game or two if Rodgers cannot play. Thus, good play by Boyle and a timely soft tissue injury to a QB feeling it only needs a top 35 QB to win ... trade bait!

I'd say Boyle is the #2 QB, as it sounds like he keeps improving and knows the system, and with this off-season rookies are going to get the least amount of practice ever before a season.

And while the current trend is throw a QB in there early and often, it seems like QBs haven't necessarily always developed as well that way. So let Love sit the bench, and make him earn the job.

That's one huge complaint I had a long time ago and haven't thought of in a while, it seemed like rookies that were just given a starting spot on the depth chart DT Justin Harrell and OT Sherrod, struggled more than guys that had to earn it, OT Bulaga, DT Daniels.

So I'm all good with putting the new guys last and telling them to earn their way up... though when it comes to released, you do have to think about upside potential and development potential, and not strictly who's better now. But I'd try to make sure no rookies got the day 1 starting spots.

As for trade bait, I think this is a bad time for QB trades, as the recent supply of QBs has been larger than normal, and most teams got someone who they think might be their future.

Great point....

I am unsure how the roster rules work. If Love was the 'emergency' QB, does he count against the number of 'active' players for a particular game?

I'd be perfectly comfortable with Boyle being QB 2.
From what little I have seen of him I like.
He exudes confidence, has an excellent arm and can move well in the pocket as well as outside the pocket.
I would have confidence in Boyle leading the Packers offense.

Unless Boyle completely falls apart he's QB2. If they trade him it would be after the 2020 season.

Which I believe is going to 48 players, but I'm confused if that's going to be happening this year, of the year they start having 17 games seasons (which you only get the 48th spot if you have at least 8 OL, which I guess is to make sure the OL don't have too much pressure to keep going after injured happens?).

Also the 53 man roster will allow for 2 PS call up each week, to make it 55 man roster with a 48 game day roster... so for the first time ever, PS players might actually play in games. Which again, I'm confused if that's this year or when the 17 game seasons start.

Mucky Tundra (2h) : Or ties, but let's be real here
Mucky Tundra (2h) : Other scenario was Falcons+Rams losses
Mucky Tundra (2h) : Needed a Falcons loss for a Seahawk loss to clinch

Martha Careful (21-Dec) : I think MLF want Love to look past the end half issues, and feel good about his play. Our coaches generally keep a very positive tone.
beast (21-Dec) : I think a great running game will do that for most QBs
packerfanoutwest (21-Dec) : Coach Matt LaFleur has said quarterback Jordan Love is playing the best football of his career.
beast (21-Dec) : Oh, that's how you keep beating buckeye, with cheating

Mucky Tundra (20-Dec) : Right now it looks like the only prime worthy games are Det-Minny and KC-Denver (if Denver can clinch a wild card spot)

Zero2Cool (16-Dec) : Packers are 6th in sacks.
