wpr's statistics on the city-specific breakdowns is interesting. dyeah_gb, are you willing to explain a better way to look at the data (either in a post or a private message)?

Maybe, start by looking at cop fatalities in a region with similar black and white crime levels? If you can pull enough data you can assess if their is a statistically significant bias. Even then, the type of crime matters. In the end it is hard to do the analysis because you want more data. I am just not convinced by anecdotal claims on the matter. If it is so obvious, then why is it so hard to make an objective (non-emotional) case to the rest of us?

Even if you have a good data set, scientists can run into other problems . Unfortunately, sometimes intentional.

Thanks for the reply.

I admittedly didn't put much time or thought into the stats I linked to, mostly because I didn't have a purpose. I was reading previous posts, one of which said something that questioned whether the white population was really that much proportionally larger than the black population currently. That made me realize that I had no idea if that was true or not, so I looked up the demographic info. After that I got sucked into a wormhole looking at shooting deaths.

wpr's info made me realize there is more to it than broad generalized data from the entire country. I didn't recognize this before posting my info.

Your post reinforced that.

Additionally, the shooting death data is only a subset of a larger police violence data - it was only distracting to the conversation to focus in on that.

A different way to consider the entire situation is that "perception is reality" - if a perfect data analysis was performed and reported on, it still wouldn't matter if large portions of the population perceived their lives differently than the data indicated.

Reading about Floyd’s funeral....thousands waited in line for hours to get a glimpse of his golden casket....and there was a picture of him with angel wings and a halo.
His death was sad, but they make him out to be Mother Teresa! His arrest record has him arrested several times for theft and drug convictions. And in 2007 for armed robbery in a home invasion. Sentenced to 5 years in prison, he was paroled in 2013. Hardly a saint if you ask me. And he was a huge man, not some little guy. Had he done what the police told him to do, it wouldn’t have escalated.
That’s what I don’t get. The media makes him out to be this perfect guy who did no wrong, and don’t put any blame on him for his actions in this. Had he complied with the cops, he would still be alive. Yes, the cop went over board with the use of force. And he will be tried in court for it. I’m NOT justifying the cops actions!
But the use of Floyd’s death is insane. Just using him to throw fuel on the fire to cause more damage.

Thousands of people died because of corona virus, and families couldn’t even have a funeral to pay their respects to their loved ones. Yet thousands are allowed at Floyd’s funeral? Tell me there are not other motives at play here.

Brees should have never apologized for his statement. He loves and respects what the flag stands for, and for his relatives and other brave people that fought for this country. Those that disrespect the flag seem to forget that. They don’t seem to realize that that very flag stands for them to have the freedom to protest. You can protest in so many ways that don’t disrespect the flag.
When I was young, I was brought up in the cult of Jehovahs Witnesses. I wasn’t allowed to stand for the national anthem or say the pledge of allegiance. I was punched and belittled by other kids and even one teacher. Inside I loved my country, and didn’t understand why I couldn’t show it.
When I broke away from it, I asked my Mom why it was that way. She didn’t even understand it. Since then, I have never been ashamed to show my love for America. It’s not perfect, but then no country is.
That’s why one of my proudest moments was when I got to sing the national anthem at a Milwaukee Brewers game in 2010.
People seem to not understand just how good we have it here. Try protesting anything in Cuba, North Korea, Russia and so on. See what THAT would get you.

Gentlemen, I would put forth the following: we need to have the same amount of distain and rage both with how those cops in MN acted and how the rioters are acting.

I would love this all to be resolved in a positive way. It would be best for everyone.

packerfanoutwest (21h) : and there no SB contest over in the other Packer forum, either
buckeyepackfan (21h) : #2Officially Retires!
beast (21h) : Probably no SB topic as people are wore out talking about the Chiefs, Refs and Eagles

packerfanoutwest (4-Feb) : why is there no SB Prediction topic?

Mucky Tundra (30-Jan) : Now that's a thought, maybe they're looking at the college ranks? Maybe not head coaches but DC/assistant DCs with league experience?
beast (30-Jan) : College Coaches wouldn't want that publicly, as it would hurt recruiting and they might not get the job.
beast (30-Jan) : I thought they were supposed to publicly announce them, at least the NFL ones. Hafley was from college, so I believe different rules.
Mucky Tundra (30-Jan) : Who knows who they're interviewing? I mean, nobody knew about Hafley and then out of nowhere he was hired
beast (30-Jan) : I wonder what's taking so long with hiring a DL coach, 2 of the 3 known to interview have already been hired elsewhere.

buckeyepackfan (26-Jan) : I forgot, they corrected the call a week later. Lol btw HAPPY BIRTHDAY dhazer!
buckeyepackfan (26-Jan) : That brings up the question, why wasn't Nixon down by contact? I think that was the point Kanata was making.
