Previously the 1st round was 15 minutes while the 2nd was 10 minutes. Before they made it a 3 day affair, it wasn't uncommon for the 1st round to last 6+ hours and when combined with rounds 2 and 3, turned the first day of the draft into a 12 hour slog. Now it's 10 for the first and 7 for the 2nd.

What are the odds that they cut to commercial right when it is announced that our pick is in?

Each team is allotted 10 minutes in the first round. 7 minutes in the 2nd. 5 in the 3rd - 6th and 4 minutes for the 7th round.

Just because a team makes their pick in their allotted 10 minutes doesn't mean the NFL immediately announces the pick. They hold off. Play the commercials. Interview prior draft selections. Allow the talking heads time to do their final assessments and prognostications. Look at the best players still available and the like. Then Roger comes out and announces the selection. Have you never seen the running clock for the next team is down to 8 or 7 minutes or even less? I've seen it around 5 minutes every once in a while.

I love it when I take a solid stance on something and 48 hours I'm proven wrong.

I just read that the NFL held a mock draft today to see how smoothly their best laid plans were going to work.
They ran into a glitch with the first pick.
Great, just great, that should be fun to watch!!
