So hear me out. My biggest cause for concern with this team is, and has been for some years, going into games as the heavy favorites. This team in my experience, always plays better when they're looked at with skepticism. You don't need to look further than the run the table and R-E-L-A-X years and compare them to a year say, the 2011 season after the Superbowl. Hell, just look at the Superbowl year, squeaking in as a wildcard.
This year we managed to go 13-3 AND garner heavy skepticism that we'll be one and done in the playoffs.
I LOVE IT.
The consensus was that we were going to roll over the Chargers. We were hot, we were playing an away but actually home game. We stumbled. Aaron Rodgers admitted the favorable rumblings about our team might have got into their head. Fast forward to San Fran. Despite the earlier stumble against the Chargers just weeks before we managed to garner a lot of positive attention going into the matchup with the Niners. Maybe it's because people love the story when a team snatches away dominance and the top spot from the current leader. Maybe it's because a lot of media personalities thought the Niners had to give another one up at some point. Either way, I read a lot of stuff suggesting the Packers were going to walk away from the game as the new number one seed, and I didn't like it. Well, we all know how that played out.
So since then, we've won; but not convincingly enough to sway popular opinion that we stand a chance in the playoffs......and I LOVE IT.
I think the Saints come to town, and we win in a up and down game in the cold. Again, we get it done, but leave people murmuring that the performance we put in won't be enough to take down the Niners in San Fran.
Then you know what happens? Aaron Rodgers reminds the world of his fading greatness. He puts on his favorite "I'm a BAD motherf*cker" speedo, and goes into Santa Clara and claps those Niner cheeks.
Then you know what happens? Well, we probably get murdered by the Ravens*. But hey! Superbowl!
*If Lamar makes it. He's going to take a lot of gnarly shots in the playoffs.
