Hmm, why not? I suppose this is a sign that the team is content enough with Goode at least for now although they'll still probably bring in some competition for him.

So we paid this guy about $80,000 last year for the privilege of trading him away . . . for a possible seventh-round pick . . . two years from now. I don't get it.

Goode is good so this is cool with me. I got a new nickname for Thompson...

Think Ahead Ted!

Well what do you think? Yeah I know you all think it's awesome!

As someone pointed out, it is better than cutting him outright. Better to sell your old truck for $350 than give it away, I guess.

Well, he was going to be our starter until he got injured...

Why all the fuss about maybe getting some compensation for a guy that wasn't going to be on our roster?

I like getting compensation. It's just the "conditional" part that baffles me. There's a decent change that we won't get anything for him.

Then again, we wouldn't have gotten anything for him period if we had cut him outright, so I suppose this is a smart move overall. We need to bear in mind that teams will be rolling into training camp with only 80 roster slots, so now is the time to start trimming judiciously.

Yahoo stated it was a 2011 pick.

Packers trade long snapper Jansen to Panthers

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP)The Green Bay Packers traded long snapper J.J. Jansen to Carolina on Monday for a conditional 2011 seventh-round draft pick, perhaps signaling the end of veteran Jason Kyles eight-year run in that position with the Panthers.

With the draft just around the corner and the frenzy of post draft free agent signings we have to get the roster count down. This year the number is at 80 only..

With this move it gets us to 67 players.. currently under contract.. and at the moment with 9 picks to add to the roster.. the leaves a grand total of 4 UDFA that can be signed.

Again can only bring 80 to camp... so it is more apparent why we didn't go nuts in pre-draft FA..

Let the draft shake out.. get into the post draft mini's and see where the roster shakes out.. then if need be.. add a seasoned veteran to an area of concern yet.

But looking at the roster  yesterday, there aren't that many "why are they on the roster" type players left that shouldn't be brought to camp in late summer.
