whoooooo nelly this was nothing to do with Brett. I was referring to so many people talking about Rodgers and how if Brett was let back they felt Rodgers wouldn't resign with the team. I know Rodgers never said it but thats what people on here said, which was basically if he didn't get the starting job he would take his ball and goto another team when his contract was up. Once again i will make this clear the people that worshipped him were calling him a baby and didn't even realize it.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

I don't blame him.

I do. I think every player should be competing for his job every season. I don't think anyone should roll into camp comfortable with the knowledge his job is secure.

They did? I thought it was more on the lines of IF he did they wouldn't be surprised and they'd be upset if he was an awesome QB elsewhere and got stuck with a flop. But what do I know?

Not re-signing when your contract is up is different than going incomunicado and demanding a trade. You and i and everybody else here knows that the fear was that Rodgers would choose to not re-sign when it came time for a new contract because he may have felt that another team would treat him better. That's what I would've done. I don't remember anyone who has commented in this thread saying they thought Rodgers would demand a trade.

The difference here is subtle, and dhazer's stance here is a function of his perception on how strong a parallel between two situations can be drawn.

Well, let's compare:

Favre retired for the Packers. Aaron Rodgers was subsequently told that he's the starter. Favre wanted to returned and the possibility of a open competition was floated. Rodgers mentioned that he would be happy to compete if needed. In the end, the Packers front office showed their commitment to Rodgers over Favre.

New coach McDaniels enquired about the possibility of trading for Cassel. Cutler, upon hearing the thought that he isn't a guaranteed starter, started to complain. When hearing the words that nobody is safe from being traded, even he, Cutler took major Offense and began his Bus Cook induced spiral towards trade-dom.

In either situation, neither of the QB's fears had happened; Favre never did come back to the Packers and a trade involving Cutler never materialised. But Rodgers held his tongue and said the right thing, even though such a move would have annoyed him, while Cutler bursts his pipes and is now learning a new offense with no WR to throw to.

Now, to address some of the previous sentiment, I am of the opinion that if Favre would have returned, Rodgers would have seriously considered signing a contract elsewhere. At that stage, he would still be a young QB, having just completed his first season (if Favre retired after returning 1 year). If he performed well, he could be looking at a fresh start riding on momentum, paying possibly better than what the Packers would normally pay, which one would consider as less than the league average. If he performed poorly, he probably would have stayed. We don't know what he would have chosen, but my thoughts, and that of others, was that there was a potential for Rodgers to go elsewhere, as is the typical life of an NFL player. In that situation we would have never saw a return for our investment in Rodgers, because he never got the proper chance to display what he learnt form Favre in our WCO. We did not expect Rodgers to pout and demand trades, holdout or publicly complain the way Cutler seems to do a lot of the time.

My conclusion is that there is no contradiction in the posters' attitudes here because the potential for Rodgers being a crybaby, which he never displayed in any shape or form, does not absolve Cutler for actually moaning and being a crybaby. If Cutler wasn't blowing so much smoke, he would have never said "I didn't expect them to trade me so soon". If he really wanted out so badly, he would have said "good riddance."

Didn't favre pull this same sort of crap last season after he retired for like the 100th time and wanted to come back. Funny how Cutler is a baby for wanting to be traded after he gave that team everything and was blatantly lied to by his new coach after a Pro bowl season and basically being the only bright spot in Denver, yet Favre can pull the crying(literally) and team hostage situation for nearly 4 years running retire and then come out of retirement expecting the Packers to forgo their future plans nand blow off Rodgers to accomodate him and his selfish ways for another season. The Favre appologists bagging on Cutler are displaying hypocricy at it's finest. How can you rip Cutler for his actions and dismiss the Broncos organization of any wrong doing and yet defend Brett for his actions and rip Ted and co?

I think most people on this is site said Favre was a little bit of a baby but he earned the right to be one. Cutler is nothing compared to Favre buddy.

How the hell does someone -- anyone -- earn the right to be a baby? That logic makes no sense whatsoever. Experience and adversity are supposed to breed grace and maturity, not selfishness and insecurity. It really bothers me the way celebrities are treated as something akin to royalty in this country. All this maudlin blather about earning the right to play as long as one wants or to leave on one's own terms is sheer pablum. No one earns a right to do anything in the NFL. Fan adulation notwithstanding, players are nothing more than highly paid employees, and they serve at the pleasure of their coaches, managers, and owners -- which basically means until the moment someone comes along who can take their place for less money. And that's precisely the way it should be.
