The NY Giants call and say:

"Hey Ted, how ya doin'? We had a little firearms safety issue pop up out here and we would like to do a little deal to get this kid Crabtree. How 'bout the 29th the 45th and the 60th for your 9th?"

I say Ted is authorized to [strike]go oral[/strike]work extra hard to get this deal done.

Link alluding to this scenario

Whacky/possible/probable trade scenarios for that 9 pick are cordially invited...factoring in other team needs, specific players dropping to 9, etc.

Interesting ... to be honest I dont know if the pack should let their 9 go. Granted we might not get our most desired pick but still there is alot of talent up at the 9 spot. Thinks start to dwindle as we head past the 40 mark IMO.

Ted will be throwing the dice on those picks and hoping for a decent guy. I would rather we grab crabtree then give him away - even thou a WR is the last thing we need. If we got a 20 and say a 45 I would be happier.

It's a really far drop back. We might once again stack up on draft picks, but what the Packers really need is an impact player. I have alot of confidence in TT's 2nd round draft ability, but I'd prefer someone who can come in a wreak havoc from day 1.

A trade back to somewhere in the 18 range or so I wouldn't mind. Especially not if we'd select Oher with it. In this case, we're trading back a bit to far for my liking.

No. 30: Packers to Jets. Green Bay traded its first-round selection to the Jets for the Jets' second- and fourth-round selections (No. 36 and 113).

That's from last years draft. They got Dustin Keller and we got Jordy Nelson. Their 4th round pick eventually got traded back to them by us when we moved up to select Thompson.

He hasn't done it very often though, I agree with you on that. I don't think that Ted Thompson is unwilling to trade up either, if he really wants a player.

OK... Rock didn't like that one. I played with it a little, trying not to "cheat", by looking at some mocks and not "jumping picks" through three rounds. I was personally quite thrilled with the results, but again, understand what the Rock is saying. (Enjoying your digging a foxhole over at PPO, btw :thumbleft: 93z and I are going to need some more in the trenches in about two weeks )

I'm going to dig up my other one (regarding Sanchez) and throw it up here for review. The two teams to watch before us are Seattle and Oakland, and Seattle seems to be the bigger wild card for draft swap watchers, at least from what I have heard, if you can believe it with Al in the equation.

I really would like to hear any others, if anyone else is thinking in these terms.

FYI- I was on a "live chat" last night with one of the "draft gurus". He stated that all 10 of the first 10 drafting would like to move back in the draft. At the end of the past season I was what I thought a "lone voice in the wilderness" when I was advocating this move.

As an aside, I printed out drafttec's big board back in December...some of the movement has been astounding...to me an indication of the depth through three that I am constantly preaching about to anyone (no one?) that will listen.

Going to resurrect my other "scenario" now...

As far as trading up; I really wouldnt mind it - I'd rather have one of the other OT then andre. Monroe or smith would be nice. But wed probably have to hit #4 to grab one of those

ie if it goes like this
detroit - stafford
rams - j smith
kansas city - curry
seattle - (this is where imo wed have to grab the spot possibly 5 if seattle grabs like crabtree)

or we could grab the 6th pick and either grab monroe or raji (one of those should still be on the board at that point).

just some thoughts

Well, I'd take your word over mine. I'm lacking a lot of experience in this department and this is your... 78th draft right? ( 😛 )

Nah, but seriously, you've seen alot more of these than I have. The 9th pick is still way overpayed and if there is no amazing talent at that point, it might be wise to move back. Like you said though, it's not a pick that's as interesting as it should be without a rookie salary cap.

I just think we could get a trade partner like the Jets, if Sanchez is still there at 9. We would trade back to pick nr. 17 and get nr. 52 aswell. That would leave us in line for Oher at 17, Sintim at 41 and Moala at 52. (Or Maybin at 17 for instance).

Oh, and I'm enjoying my stay at PP.O so far. That Marrdro seems like a pretty cool guy.

Rock just mentioned the $$$ aspect of it. That was also brought up last night in the chat. It's a non-factor for us, in the guru's opinion. Here are the numbers at 9, according to a poster:

Last year 6 years 23 million 15.6 million guaranteed

Projected this year 6 years 24.6 million 16.6 million guaranteed

Averaged out it's Ryan Grant money.

I wouldn't mind trading our #9 to Detroit for number their #20 and #33 if they would give it up. Detroit could draft an O-line player with their first pick and get either Stafford or Sanchez at #9. We pick up an extra pick to drop down and perhaps draft Eben Britton or Robert Ayers with #20 and maybe Lauranitis or English with the #33 pick if one of them falls that far.
