from the Green Bay Press Gazette:

Tight end Tory Humphrey, a restricted free agent who wasn't tendered by the Packers, has been re-signed, and defensive end/linebacker Kenny Pettway has been released.

The Packers announced the roster moves today.

Humphrey overcame injury problems early in his career and played in all 16 games during the 2008 season. He caught 11 passes for 162 yards but had no touchdowns last season.

It means the Packers probably signed Humphrey for less than the lowest restricted free-agent tender, which was $1 million.

Pettway was signed off the street on Oct. 1 and appeared in eight games before he sustained a season-ending knee injury covering a kickoff on Nov. 30 against Carolina

Pettway was pretty meh even when he was healthy, but I'm surprised they cut him considering the few healthy bodies they even have on the defensive line right now. Humphrey I'm not shocked was re-signed. No one was probably going to pay him more than the minimum and it's nice to get him back. Still wouldn't shock me if we draft a TE at some point though.

Yeah Pettway wasn't cutting it... heh heh... so yeah not sweating his departure. Some people say need-based drafting isn't the best, but it looks as though our d-line gets thinner by the day. Here is to a d-line FA signing close to the draft either before or after.

I like humphrey - IMO he's our best TE besides Lee

Everyone is talking about how we will draft another TE, i really can't see it happening. Lee is league average at the worst, and Finley has huge upside. The only way Humphrey even makes it is if we take 3 TE's. I really don't see the need or room for another.
We are born naked, wet and hungry. Then things get worse.

I'm surprised we resigned Humphrey but it's good to have him back, he has some upside, i mean.. dude is huge!

Yes there seems to be an agreement that he is the best blocking TE they have.

dfosterf (25-Jun) : of the folks that run this team. I do not recall Mark Murphy being subject to our vote.
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy yay or nay is on the pre-approved ballot that we always approve because we are uninformed and lazy, along with all the rest
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Weird question. Very esoteric. For stockholders. Also lengthy. Sorry. Offseason.
