I was at one time fully involved with the Boy Scouts myself. So I already knew that Churches, fraternal organizations, and even some small businesses sponsor the Boy/ and Girl Scouts. In my day it was unusual for a Grocery Store or Hardware store to allow the Scouts to sell products on their property. What I was wondering about is weather the Walmarts, Lowes, Targets, and CVSs have changed their policies any. Selling light bulbs outside one or all of these stores may not be allowed. I've heard that Target drove off the Salvation Army from placing their christmas kettles outside of their stores.
One of the best fundraisers that I recall was the Bar-B-Que dinner. We pre sold these dinners ahead of time and delivered them on the Saturday that we usually held it on. Our leaders would cook a whole pig, make a very large pot of baked beans, and fry thousands of from scratch hush puppies. Each styrofoam container would get a proper portion of each plus a portion of freshly made coleslaw. Dinner orders were delivered and the money would be collected. In addition, loads of people would also show up and have their dinner at tables they were set up on our church sponsors lawn. The money raised would pay for camping gear, Flags and Banners for the troop, and pay for the awards/badges that the scouts earned. The fine men that acted as Scout Troop Leaders will always have my respect and gratitude as they provided an important chapter of my and many others growing years.
