This brings up some interesting questions, such as...

  1. Who will choose the new head coach?
  2. (in time) Who will the new head coach be?
  3. Will Murphy return to the old structure of head coach under GM?

  4. Why Philbin and not Pettine?
  5. Are they interested in keeping Pettine?

  6. How will the players react to this? Will they be better or the same over the next couple of games?
  7. How will this effect the Packers potential draft pick? (currently 10th overall, and potential between the 5th and 14th overall)

  8. Who's the offensive play caller? Mike McCarthy always did it, and as Dolphin head coach, I thought he had Mike Sherman do it?

5- It'll probably be up to the Head Coach to decide
6- Randall Cobb had a chance to say no, McCarthy hasn't lost the locker room, instead, he side stepped the question.

7- We'll still stink, and get high pick
8- Hopefully Aaron Rodgers and lets see what he can do. If he bombs, maybe it'll humble him.

While it sucks to see him turfed unceremoniously like this, the upside is it spares him a month of rumors and speculation and being forced to deal with someone (Rodgers) who doesn't want to work with him anymore. It also allows both him and the team to start putting out feelers for future employment (Mike for a new team and potential replacements get the rest of the season to show off their stuff as an "application" if you will)

Now he can pursue other options if he chooses and he can get a jump on the other candidates. He can research other teams, like Cleveland for example, he can study Mayfield and get to know him if that is a job he is interested in pursuing. Other teams can contact him without tampering charges or whatever if they so choose. All that and he just got an extra 4 weeks paid vacation.

(Rodgers) . . . doesn't want to work with him anymore.

Let's try to give benefit of doubt.

Saw this in the comments of an article on the firing:

When asked to comment on McCarthy's firing Aaron Rodgers said "I consider Coach McCarthy like family to me. And just like my real family the time has come for me to never speak to him again."

If Aaron Rodgers improves his passing accuracy

It will be impossible to know for certain if such improvement is due to a better scheme or to improvement in Rodgers' attitude, of course. If nothing else, it will be interesting to see how Rodgers' body language on the field changes with the new regime.

Vick was an odd QB in the respect, there were times when he could accuracy toss it 40 yards down the field, but couldn't accurately throw it 5-10 yards... which I noticed at one point, Rodgers seemed to struggle more with the shorter throws than the longer ones.

Vick later came out (and said what I thought) it was because he wasn't practicing (or giving a shit) about his footwork... he cared about the long passes, and would practice and pay attention to those...

I've wondered how much practicing and paying attention, Rodgers was doing with the short easy throws... I mean in theory they're the easy ones and need the less practicing ... but if you ignore them or get to a point that you're not used to doing them often (like fans have complained about Rodgers ignoring the check downs), then maybe you get rusty?
