That's true, indeed. Forgot about those guys. I think it has something to do with this.

When you're a DE, you have to adjust to the speed and/or strength of NFL tackles. That's a pretty big thing to do, as it's a real jump upwards.

As an OLB, you depend on the big DE to take the tackle and the guard. If they succeed, so will the OLB. All you need in that case is a slight swim/rip move and some speed.

Seems logical, haven't done alot of research on first year DEs though.

I just hope free agency isn't over. We really need at least one other NFL player to provide depth on the defensive line.

I was hoping from the end of that season we would get Mario. Just really liked him, his talent and his person. Nothing against Hawk, I like him also. But I would have preferred Mario because of position, great DE's are so hard to get. I felt he had a chance.

As far as Hawk I believe he'll be a lot better now that we have a D coaching staff that knows what they're doing. At least that is my hope.
Why is Jerry Kramer not in the Hall of Fame?

2 things first about Meriman do you forget he also tested positive for steroids lol. As for the second thing i didn't know but Capers has a losing record (atleast thats what was said in an article)

I would love to see some more Packer info show up on this site but there isn't crap. Teams are bringing in potential rookies to work out and we don't do anything. Just sick , plain sick Fricken do your damn job TT.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

So let me get this straight.. if it is not on KFFL or PFtalk, then we aren't doing anything eh... here are just the last couple days worth of nuggets that didn't seem to make the KFFL wire..

Want more.. read the RailBird Central daily.. most complete pre-draft coverage I have found for the Pack

The Packers have reportedly set up a visit with small school cornerback Greg Toler of St. Paul's College in Virginia. "Listed at 5-foot-11, 191 pounds, Toler has been clocked as fast as a hand-timed 4.35 in the 40-yard dash," according to The Capital. "He intercepted 14 career passes at St. Pauls's (sic), a CIAA school in Lawrenceville, Va." The article says Toler could be this year's Dominque Rodgers-Cromartie, and that can't be a bad thing.

Gil Brandt of NFL.com says Packers director of college scouting John Dorsey was in charge of the pro day at Jackson State University. The top performer was cornerback Domonique Johnson.

The Packers attended the Northern Illinois pro day yesterday and, of course, all eyes were on potential first round draft choice Larry English. The linebacker prospect reportedly improved upon all his marks from the Combine, and he even revealed that he scored a 34 on the Wonderlic test, which is impressive. There's a handful of draftniks that believe the Packers could take English with pick number nine including the Sporting News's Russ Lande.

At least one Packers scout was at Coastal Carolina's pro day yesterday as well. The biggest name there was defensive back Marrio Norman, and even he is recovering from a broken ankle. "Norman, a prospect at corner and both safety positions, measured 6-foot, 199 pounds and ran 40-yard dashes of 4.64 and 4.6 seconds," reports the Myrtle Beach Sun News. "Those are pedestrian times for NFL defensive backs, but Norman only recently gained clearance to begin full training and says he's only about 85 percent."

"Ex-Ball State defensive lineman Gonzalo Barinaga (6' 2", 260), who probably will be converted to fullback or linebacker at the next level, had a nice Pro Day recently and the 49ers, Giants and Packers have all shown some interest in him."

Packers scout Alonzo Highsmith checked out the Rice pro day according to Packer Report (sorry, subscription required).

Packers director of college scouting John Dorsey took in the Ole Miss pro day yesterday, and we can confirm he was watching potential number nine draft pick Michael Oher. According to ProFootballTalk.com, "The 65, 306-pounder drew compliments for his 'great footwork,' per Brandt." Even though most mock drafts have Oher going lower than pick number nine, there's a small contingent of football minds that see him as being worth a top ten choice. And I would not entirely rule out the Packers taking Oher. If you didn't know, Oher's personal life was detailed in a book titled "The Blind Side," which brought to light a tough childhood that may scare away some teams. Some scouts say that if that book hadn't been written, Oher would be a surefire top ten draft pick. It will be required reading as a homework assignment for Railbird Central readers if the Packers draft Oher.

In other pro day news, the Packers were also in attendance at Western Kentucky to check out some prospects yesterday as well. There were no big time players there, but remember these names when it comes to undrafted free agents. "Defensive linemen Terald Clark, Dan Cline and Robert Dark, linebacker Alonzo Higgins, defensive back Marcus Minor, offensive lineman Greg Ryan, and running back Stephen Willis all participated in a variety of strength, speed and agility drills," according to a Western Kentucky press release.

At least one other Packers scout was at Alcorn State's pro day yesterday as well. TFY Draft is saying that the Packers were checking out a linebacking prospect. "Five teams, including the Green Bay Packers, Cleveland Browns, New Orleans Satains, San Francisco 49ers and New England Patriots were on hand to watch the workout of linebacker Lee Robinson," says TFY Draft (sorry, subscription required). Robinson is one of the top small school prospects in the entire draft. NFL Draft Bible rates Robinson as the 19th best small school player in the entire draft, Draft Daddy has him rated as the second best small school linebacker, and NFL Draft Countdown has him rated as the 14th best outside linebacker overall.

The Packers also checked out some North Dakota State prospects on Tuesday. According to Jeff Kolpack of the Bison Media Blog, "From talking to others and from my own eyes, running back Tyler Roehl, receiver Kole Heckendorf and safety Nick Schommer were the most impressive for the scouts." These are names to remember when it comes down to post draft free agents.

Bill Huber of the Packer Report is saying Green Bay watched Wake Forest cornerback Alphonso Smith at Wake Forest's pro day (sorry, subscription required).

Good find Z i didn't know about that site. Like i said i see all these other teams listed for players and never see the Packers so it gets frustrating. Plus i'm getting sick of all the Steeler fans laughing at me cuz Ted Thompson signed their reject. I would just love to have something new to have to smile about. Dfoster can understand as a few others can that don't live in Wisconsin on how hard it is to be a Packer fan this time of year.

Good stuff. English at #9? I wouldn't be displeased. He is so underrated on most mock draft sites right now it's stupid, and a 34 on the Wonderlic shows he has a solid head on his shoulders.

Rutgers McCourty Drawing Interest
Posted by Aaron Wilson on April 2, 2009, 4:05 p.m.

Rutgers cornerback Jason McCourty, who clocked a 4.30 and a 4.34 in the 40-yard dash at his campus Pro Day workout, has set up several visits, according to a league source.

The 511, 193-pounder is scheduled to visit the Houston Texans next week followed by visits with the Green Bay Packers and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

beast (8-Aug) : But the Return from IR designations had to be applied by the 53 man cutdown.
beast (8-Aug) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (8-Aug) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔
dfosterf (8-Aug) : Apparently it is too complicated for several to follow your simple instructions, but I digress

Zero2Cool (7-Aug) : it's crazy how one stored procedure to get data bogged everything down for speed here
dfosterf (7-Aug) : to herd cats or goldfish without a bowl. They reminded me of the annual assembly of our fantasy league
