You get a "A" Zero, you have correctly repeated what you were taught. James McPherson is partly correct, but if you and Cheesey are happy with a set of incomplete facts that fit what you've always been told, then go ahead and drink that Kool-Aid.

this video is a more contemporaneous discussion of what actually happened and how conflicts raged within families

Smokey...were you there during the (un)civil war?
How do you know that what you believe is more factual then what others have written? You choose to believe what those that you want to believe have written.
History that is recorded isn’t always what actually happened. The political beliefs and other things sway the writers view of history. The southern people’s writings would differ greatly from northern people’s writings.
So we (including you) really don’t know 100% what the truth is.

True southerners like myself still fight the good fight, but now it is to set the record straight.

Leave it go Cheesey. Mr Lincoln had plenty of detractors in his day. It didn't stop him. He formed the broadest coalition cabinet this nation has ever seen despite the naysayers.

It's is no wonder there are so many people today that hate him. It doesn't help his image that he was nearly deified by Herndon, Hays and Nicolay among others.

Mr Lincoln was a wise man and he doesn't really care what people think today. He doesn't have to justify any of his actions to them. You shouldn't either.

By the way. What I know of Lincoln wasn't taught to me in school. There isn't enough time to do anything than to go over the most rudimentary stories. I have read more than 100 books about him in the past 40 years.
