I feel like this theory is suggesting this is one huge master plan by a single person, and I disagree with that... I feel like this year was going to be a rebuilding year even before Gute got hired...
I mean the physical talent simply wasn't there... the Mike McCarthy decided to fired Capers (rebuilding), someone decided Thompson time was done (rebuilding)... both before Gute was hired... and they simply didn't have the back end defensive talented (no choice but to rebuild) and they came up with a plan and decided cut Jordy Nelson (almost willingly rebuilding the WRs) and looked like Pettine's choosing to rebuild the defense in his image (which he needed to).
So I believe the Packers management as a whole decided they needed to rebuild (or reload or whatever term you want), and this isn't solely a master plan by Gute. If the WRs develop, then the Packers big needs next season are OLB, DL, S, OG, back-up OT and back-up TE.
And it's supposed to be a very good draft year for OLB and DL... OGs are supposed to be easier to find.
Leaving S (maybe two S), back-up OT and back-up TE as the huge needs for FAs. Maybe ILB too ...
Also I'm still wondering about the idea to put Josh Jones at S instead of ILB... I think he can develop into a good Saftey, but I thought he might be able to be a great ILB and play sooner... just saying.
