I think most of of believe Randall Cobb is going to be here. Other side of the coin, if he's not with Packers, do you think he gets cut? Do you think he gets trade? If so, trade to who and for what?

The Green Bay Packers made some changes on the offensive side of the football during the offseason. The storied franchise brought in tight end Jimmy Graham and released veteran wideout and a favorite target of Aaron Rodgers in Jordy Nelson.

Green Bay may not be done wheeling and dealing with the start of the 2018 NFL season approaching. There have been rumors circulating about the availability of Randall Cobb. Although this seemed like a stretch considering the fact the team already parted ways with Nelson, it appears this may not be a secret around the league, according to The Ringer’s Mike Lombardi who said the following on the GM Street podcast recently.

“Everybody in the league knows Randall Cobb is available,” Lombardi said, adamantly. “All you gotta do is make the call.” Lombardi did acknowledge that Cobb likely has no trade market, however. He is owed an $8.6 million salary and has chronic ankle problems. We can’t say we’d be surprised if Cobb got cut.

GB does not cut Cobb. I doubt they will trade him. If they did, they won't get much more than a 6th for him. He will play out his contract and then not be re-signed. His ankle will be fine this year. If the youngsters show any ability they will play more and Cobb less thus sparing him from injury.

If you count ST specialist Trevor Davis as a WR, then I think the Packers got 8 WRs for what will be 6 or maybe 7 spots. So I'm not the least surprised they're open to trading someone... and Cobb would free up the most cap space and really hasn't lived up to that contract.

Though I'll always wonder, what if we cut Cobb and kept Nelson.

But I've gotten the feeling the Packers are open and listening for trade offers on all their contract year guys. Which includes

Matthews, Cobb, Wilkerson, Lewis, Clinton-Dix, Kenricks, Bell, House, Rollins, Monty, Ryan, Hundley (already traded), Ripkowski and Goodson (for UFA) ... and for RFA it's Allison, Brice, Hawkins, Evans, Kerridge and Mbu.

Probably not the one year contract guys like WIlkerson and Lewis, but I wanted to add them as being in contract years.

No team is that desperate for 600 yards.

Lombardi is just trying to cover his *** after his last "breaking news story" regarding Cobb.

With a healthy Aaron Rodgers you could probably put just about anyone in Cobb's position and get the same numbers out of them that we got from Cobb Last year so in that respect I can see why some people want to move on from him and get the cap relief. On the other hand with a healthy Aaron Rodgers I think we can hope for so much more from Randall Cobb than what we got last year. Something that I'm not sure we could get with just about anyone else.

I'm not even worried that Rodger's wouldn't like it. He just got 134 million dollars he will like what they tell him to like, but I would be worried about the experience behind Adams if we lose Cobb. I'm just not comfortable going into the season with Adams as our only WR with any real experience. Adams will be the deep threat, Graham will be Rodgers new favorite red zone target but I think Cobb will be his security blanket. He will be the guy to move the chains. He will be the guy catching 4-5 passes in that 2 minute 80 yard drive leading to a TD to win the game. With a healthy Randall Cobb and a Healthy Aaron Rodgers I can easily see Cobb leading the Packers in receptions this year.

Anyone other then Rodgers could be traded.
That said, I don’t think there’s any chance that Cobb will be traded or cut.
Not with Nelson gone.

Cobb is in a contract year and knows this year is his audition for his next team. Cobb does big things for us this year and then moves on

Doubt Cobb gets traded - I think his performance this year will determine whether he gets another contract in Green Bay or somewhere else.

Trading Cobb would be asinine... Just get rid of all our experienced receivers.... makes total sense...

Martha Careful (22-Jan) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!

Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
