Holy fuck . . . $57.5 million in dead cap money this year. For a quarterback who's only made it to one Super Bowl.

Why do NFL teams feel this compulsion to compete with each other to break compensation records? What kind of PR bump do they think they're really getting? The fans couldn't care less, and it's not like inking the second or third most lucrative contract in league history is going to make it any harder to sign free agents, so whom are they trying to impress anyway?

In a couple years, the cap is going to jump up due to the money made from sports gambling. This contract will be a bargain then.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't dead cap money only come into effect if the player is cut?

Just glad it's done.

Wont have to hear about it all season

The numbers are very manageable.
Salary cap numbers are only going to go up.

Example a players signs a 5 year deal with 5 million signing bonus (1 million per year). That signing bonus gets spread evenly over the first 5 years (I believe). So say a team trades said player before year 4, then they would still have 2 million of dead cap space, since they already paid out that bonus (when it was signed) but it has not yet been accounted for.

Twitter mentions that this saves us 15 million in cap space this season. If we don't use that that's 15 more million toward other years. Takes the sting out of some of those cap hits.

If Rodgers plays in every regular season game over the next 6 years, that is a total of 96 games. And, he is expected to be paid $176,000,000.00 over that period, not including incentives, that comes to $1,833,333.33 per game over 6 seasons.

Most of us will not make over a lifetime what Rodgers will average per game. It will stick in my mind moving forward as I watch Packer games. I may calculate per game what each pass attempt was worth. EX: $1,833,333.33 divided by 40 pass attempt = $45,833.33.

What did you make last year? šŸ˜

His 57 million dollar signing bonus alone gives him a cap hit of 11.5 million this year so even if he got no other money this year that would only save us 9.5 million. His base this season is almost 9 million and there is a workout bonus of half a mil so that eats up that 9.5. Spotrac has his cap hit at 20.9 million this year so that makes us about even maybe a little bit ahead.

I am ecstatic. He is the best to have ever played the position...I hope we can keep him healthy for the duration of the contract.

Now, perhaps we can seriously consider some other moves (like Mack)

spotrac has his cap hits as the following

2018 20.9 million
2019 26.5
2020 32.6
2021 33.5
2022 37
2023 25.5

We better hope the cap keep going up. Those are some pretty hefty numbers in 2020-2022

I can't imagine signing Mack for any cap hit less than 15 million a year probably closer to 20 so that means 40 - 48 million minimum maybe 45-53 tied up in two guys if we were to sign Mack for 4 years.

beast (30-Jan) : I thought they were supposed to publicly announce them, at least the NFL ones. Hafley was from college, so I believe different rules.
