I remember when this would be very exciting to me. Now, I just think, no thanks. Your thoughts?

The Green Bay Packers have discussed the possibility of adding veteran inside linebacker NaVorro Bowman to make up for the loss of Jake Ryan.
The post NaVorro Bowman An Option For Packers appeared first on Total Packers.

Is Gutekinst so desperate to show that he is the "anti-Ted" that he will "replace" a player that wasn't gonna make the team anyway?

We shall see.

Of all the vet options Bowman is probably the best. He graded out alright last year, I wouldn't mind having him play base then switching in Burks for sub packages.

Jake Ryan might be limited athletically but this is football, there is more than just being a track star. Ryan was a top 5 LB in PFF's Run-Stop Percentage just last year. I don't understand the necessary to throw everybody under the bus as worthless marginal talent that have no chance of making the roster, when CLEARLY they're above the 53 spot... and not even on the bubble.

Ryan isn't a star player, but he's been a good role player and the coaches all seem like they're losing a player that was going to be helpful.

It's a big loss with Jake.

I think it'd work... Ryan was gonna be nothing, but a run stopping linebacker. At this point in his career, that's exactly what Bowman would be.

You gotta understand that losing a player might not necessarily affect the starting lineup, but it hurts our depth. What happens if Martinez or Burks gets hurt? We'd definitely be in trouble. It's always nice to keep the cupboard stocked.

For a reasonable price, why not? I also wonder whether the thinking may be that because of the relative strength of the defensive line, the need for the traditional "run stopper" may be mitigated. I think the current roster could present an extremely impressive DL in short yardage situations.

I'd be for keeping an extra DL we really like than grabbing someone off the street. I really do want to see what these other LB prospects can do, especially Ahmad Thomas.
