As we all know, the Packers have now taken a defensive player as their top pick seven consecutive times, dating back to 2012. Of those seven players, three are still on the Green Bay roster: safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix (2014; first round), defensive tackle Kenny Clark (2016; first round), and cornerback Kevin King (2017; second round). In fact, since Aaron Rodgers was drafted at No. 24 in 2005, the Packers have only taken an offensive player in the first round twice, springing for offensive tackles both times: Bryan Bulaga (2010) and Derek Sherrod (2011). (Yes, wide receiver Jordy Nelson was their top pick in 2008, but he was taken in the second round.)

A glance at the current Packers roster reveals something interesting: Green Bay is going into the 2018 season with only two first-round picks on the offensive side of the ball: Rodgers and Bulaga, both of whom missed significant playing time last year.

I'm curious how how that ratio compares to other teams in the league, but on its face, it sure strikes me as a case of serious underrepresentation -- especially when you consider the fact that in 2017, Rodgers only started in seven games and Bulaga in five, meaning that for the majority of the season, the Packers played without any first-round picks on offense at all!

Measured against most pre-draft evaluations of talent (Mayhock rated top corner in the draft), a very nice first day for the new GM.
But as other have posted, you cant make everyone happy.

if we assume that this is the guy they wanted to get at 14, then they had a hell of a first day, irrespective of what draft analysts said.

Further, I am Extremely glad they drafted for need. A 7-9 teams with a great quarterback should only draft best player available if that player fills a need, Along with the new Defensive coaching staff and reloaded cornerback position we should be able to compete with anybody.

Hopefully, we will continue drafting for need by supplementing our edge rush, wide receiver, and offensive line personnel.

GB's new GM had me in despair when he traded the 14th pick for the 27th pick. I was not alone in that either. BG then redeemed himself to trade back up for the 18th pick.

With the 18th pick, the Packers choose the CB J. Alexander. While not my best choice, the experts say that the short fellow can play. It is a whole different game in the Pros than defending College receivers. A 5'10" player vs a 6'3" veteran WR is an obvious mis-match.

Alexander will have his chance to fail or succeed, let the chips fall where they may. [glare]

Why not lock your 6'2" CB on the 6'3" WR? Are we claiming Kevin King is garbage already?

There are probably more tall WR in college than in the pro's. Often times the bigger guys don't pan out too well in the pro's.

I'm not at all worried about the height. I watched the highlights (highlights of course show only the good), but the guy just looks comfortable on the field, like he belongs. Most said we needed a CB, we got a CB and one that most draft experts said was the best CB or 2nd best CB in the draft. PLUS, PLUS, we freaking got another 1st round pick next year.

How the hell can anyone be anything other than optimistic here?

Oh, for those claiming this is another Terrell Buckley, keep in mind, that dude got like 50 INT's in his career (35th ALL-TIME), so another T-Buck wouldn't be all that bad.

Maybe I'm still sour on ESPN tricking me into thinking the Packers really fucked up by not drafting Chad Jackson and instead taking the "slow" and "undersized" Greg Jennings. I haven't been able to get juiced up over draft picks ever since that crap. Basically, none of us know shit!! Let's get these kids in uniform and see what's up when the cleats meet the grass!!
