Such a stupid question has anyone with a bomb ever actually admitted to having one? Tsa is just performance art and clearly they lack a sense of humour.

Well...terrorism isn’t a laughing matter.

You have to send a message that THOSE kind of jokes are NOT acceptable. Common sense alone should tell you NOT TO JOKE ABOUT EXPLOSIVES IN AN AIRPORT!

And if you do that, be prepared to pay for it.

Don't want to get too deep into this in the Packers forum if it bothers anybody.

I agree terrorism isn't a laughing matter. It's a serious problem, with serious consequences to civilian safety, the safety of our armed forces, and our rights as citizens.

But how does arresting someone for making a harmless joke improve safety, prevent terrorism, or do anything positive?

I think it is bad form to get arrested because something you said was offensive to someone else.

Well, if they allow a flippant comment like that, you would see a bunch of stupid people making jokes like that.

There are some places where you need to use your God given brain and not act stupid.
I understand it’s “just” a joke, but is it asking too much to THINK before you open your mouth?
The agents have a difficult enough job to not expect people to have some respect.
Just my own opinion.

Every time someone says terrorism isn't a laughing matter or that you shouldn't make jokes about bombs, I can't help but start quoting my favorite all-American hero, the late great George Carlin:

Ohh, some people don't like you to talk like that. Ohh, some people like to shut you up for saying those things. You know that. Lots of people. Lots of groups in this country want to tell you how to talk. Tell you what you can't talk about. Well, sometimes they'll say, well, you can talk about something but you can't joke about it. Say you can't joke about something because it's not funny. Comedians run into that shit all the time.

Like rape. They'll say, "You can't joke about rape. Rape's not funny." I say, "Fuck you, I think it's hilarious. How do you like that?" I can prove to you that rape is funny. Picture Porky Pig raping Elmer Fudd. See? Hey, why do you think they call him "Porky," eh? I know what you're going to say. "Elmer was asking for it. Elmer was coming on to Porky. Porky couldn't help himself, he got a hard-on, he got horny, he lost control, he went out of his mind."

A lot of men talk like that. A lot of men think that way. They think it's the woman's fault. They like to blame the rape on the woman. Say, "She had it coming, she was wearing a short skirt." These guys think women ought to go to prison for being cock teasers: don't seem fair to me.

Don't seem right, but you can joke about it. I believe you can joke about anything. It all depends on how you construct the joke. What the exaggeration is, what the exaggeration is. Because every joke needs one exaggeration; every joke needs one thing to be way out of proportion. . . .

More comedic gold here .

George Carlin wrote:

Look, I get it. Terrorism is a horrible thing. Bombs do terrible things to people -- the vulnerable and innocent most of all. I've seen more than my fair share of the carnage firsthand. But to say you can't joke about it strikes me as being about as un-American as it gets. (As that raging commie pinko liberal Neal Boortz once said: "Free speech is meant to protect unpopular speech. Popular speech, by definition, needs no protection.")*

That being said, even if I don't think it warranted putting him in cuffs (or anything more than a stern talking-to, for that matter), I think we can all agree that making that kind of joke in that setting was a dumbass move on Davis' part. I hope that he's learned a hard lesson from the consequences he'll face for making error in judgment and that he grows up sooner rather than later.

___________
* Or to quote ACLU legal director Steve Shapiro, in regard to the case of Snyder v. Phelps  (2010), in which the ACLU defended the rights of the Westboro Baptist Church to picket military funerals, even while vehemently denouncing the church's inflammatory message:

The First Amendment really was designed to protect a debate at the fringes. You don't need the courts to protect speech that everybody agrees with, because that speech will be tolerated. You need a First Amendment to protect speech that people regard as intolerable or outrageous or offensive — because that is when the majority will wield its power to censor or suppress, and we have a First Amendment to prevent the government from doing that.

Ok....then by those last posts, we should be able to make racist jokes, right?
Oh....wait....you can’t joke about polish people being dumb, or Irish people being drunks, or anything about African Americans, but we should be allowed to joke about blowing up an airport?
Ok..,.that sure makes sense.

We have a section called The Back Alley just for this stuff so we do NOT muddy up the PACKERS TALK section.

In fact, YOU have posted in a thread containing such jokes. Click here .

Every comedian or person who knows how to tell a good joke knows delivery and timing is everything. And like in real estate, LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION! We all pretty well know it's not wise to make bomb jokes in an airport. This joke lacked timing and proper location. Trevor Davis should have shared his joke on PACKERSHOME in The Back Alley section.

We must laugh. We must smile and we must not take ourselves too seriously. Life is too short, too fragile.

First and foremost the joke needs to be funny. Not just to the person telling the joke. It needs to be funny to his/her audience.

"Dad jokes" go down in flames because while the dad thinks it's amusing, the kids don't.

A few years ago comedian Gabriel 'Fluffy' Iglesias had a bit about a racist gift basket he gave to his Black friend. As he was telling it for one of the first times, a Black woman in the front row was not too pleased with the idea. By the time he finished she was laughing too and you can even hear her tell him, "We love you Gabriel". Simply asking if they packed the explosives is not going to be considered funny to anyone.

Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (8-Aug) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔
dfosterf (8-Aug) : Apparently it is too complicated for several to follow your simple instructions, but I digress
