If Tramon is one of the best two CB's and earns starter, I'm good with that. If he has to start because no one else steps up from who we currently have, that's probably not a good sign. What do you think?

Tramon Williams is back with the Green Bay Packers, after three seasons away. Packers.com staff writer Wes Hodkiewicz recently wrote about Williams and comments from Packers head coach Mike McCarthy about the corner who was part of the team's last Super Bowl win.

McCarthy said Williams doesn't look like he's aged since leaving the Packers in early 2015. Williams credits that to his commitment to doing the right things to prolong his career and allow him to stay in football shape.

As it stands right now, Williams sits on a depth chart that includes Kevin King, Quinten Rollins and a group of undrafted free agents. Davon House remains out there for the taking, but he has not signed with the Packers so is not currently part of the conversation.

Based on that cornerback room, it's worth wondering if Williams is currently the starter on the outside opposite King. There is still time in free agency and the upcoming draft and the Packers will add more corners.

Agreed with your comment. Though Tramon played lights out last season.

If we would have kept all our good DB’s in the first place, we wouldn’t have had such horrible defenses the last several years.
Then we go back and pick them up when they are “retreads?”
Makes me wonder when we will get Casey Hayward back.

Tramon got his ring already so he took the cash.

I understand that, Zero. It’s just frustrating to develope theses guys, and then let them walk out the door.

What’s the sense of “draft and develope” if when the players start to play up to expectations, you let them walk instead of paying up to keep them?
Keeping lesser players won’t get you to the super bowl.
We have proof of that.

While I don't have any illusions he will be as good as I remember, or as good as he was last year, I would be ok w/ him starting. I don't see a way around it, actually, even if House is resigned. Who on our roster is going to be better? Even if we use our first pick on a CB, this team rarely starts rookies right out of the gate, so Williams is bound to start at least the first part of the season. Assuming the injury bug doesn't get him.

Also, a Williams/King combo has got to be as good or better than what we had starting for most of last season.

The lack of success the WR's have had is why I believe having a good TE is more important than having a good WR corps because I believe Aaron Rodgers makes WR2's look like WR1's. Our offense and defense are very different.

Wise move on his part, imo.

Keep Tramon on a pitch count. You don’t want him wearing down late in the season.

dfosterf (16-Apr) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
