At the same time, Denver would be foolish to trade Cutler for that 1st overall pick, regardless of what part of the "package" it's in. Thanks to the absolutely ridiculous salary structure for these unproven players, that pick is much more of a curse than an opportunity. I would bet that no team really wants that 1st pick this year.

A 30 million + guarantee for Stafford? He might be worth it, but I don't see it. I don't even come close to seeing it. You can insert your favorite rookie here, the math still sucks, imo.

Over at the National Football Post, one of the contributors argues that the new NFLPA executive director needs to preserve this rookie salary structure. If the NFLPA listens to his advice and stands fast on this issue, I cannot see how there would ever be labor peace. Wrong is wrong... I don't have to own an NFL team to know that much.

Something is f#cked up when the 1st overall pick is a negative instead of a positive.

If Denver can't get a viable starter - not a pick that would turn into someone they hope could be a starter, but a real, viable starter - in the QB position somehow, trading Cutler is going to kill them.

So, who's got a spare starting QB? The closest I can think of is Cleveland. The argument could be made (and also easily countered) that either Anderson or Quinn might do okay w/ the new coach/schemes/etc. I don't think either is as good as Cutler, but at least if you're Denver you can say "We've got a starting QB - it'll be okay." Detroit can't offer anything like that, and neither can the Vikings or Bears. I don't see him ending up in the Norris, personally.

I think they're a bit screwed at the moment, really. Their top WR is probably going to get himself another suspension, their defense is in serious rebuilding mode, and now they've managed to alienate their best player and the best hope they've got for rebuilding in fairly short order.
