A bit off subject, but I didn't want to start a completely new thread for this.

But to go along with the thread... if Capers is kept for 2018 and all the coaches (including MM) are fired in 2019... then I might be looking very hard at Bill O'Brien!

Report: “Dysfunctional” relationship persists between Texans Head Coach Bill O’Brien and GM Rick Smith

There was some speculation at the end of the 2016 season that the Texans would part ways with head coach Bill O’Brien with his rocky relationship with General Manager Rick Smith cited as the reason why there would be a change after the team won a division title.

O’Brien stayed in Houston, but there’s again speculation about his departure with the Texans suffering through a 4-11 season amid injuries to Deshaun Watson, J.J. Watt and others. And there’s again talk about how little O’Brien and Smith, who has been in his current position since 2006, get along.

Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports that one source called their relationship “toxic” and “dysfunctional” with another saying they would be “kind of surprised” if there wasn’t a change to release the tension.

O’Brien has one year left on his contract and said that he would go into next season without an extension granting him further security in Houston. If he were to become available through firing or in a trade, he could become a candidate for other jobs once teams make changes after the end of the regular season.

First off, with the exception of the Texans Owner, I'm not sure when the Texans GM has gotten along with anyone... the guy just has a knack for upsetting others. So I don't mind O'Brien upsetting him in the slightest... of course, O'Brien didn't get alone in his previous stop either, which he reportedly had problems with the Penn State boosters. Reports that he wasn't going out of his way to make them feel special like college head coaches might be expected to do, and the guy before him, Joe Paterno was an expert at doing...

But O'Brien has seemed to have success every where he's been (at least if you consider what he's had to work with, with Penn State punishment and lacking in certain key areas and same with the Texans offense).

What do you know about this guy? Also, Gus Bradley and Vic Fangio are going to be available sometime Tuesday as their contracts expire.

I am expecting a hire for DC before Friday and for both Coordinator positions to be announced at same time.

Likewise...I am interested in pluses and minuses:
- Bradley
- Pettine
For what its worth, the intelligent Bear fans (there actually are some) I know had wished Fangio had gotten the job. The played hard and had very few mental mistakes. Very good effort with a crappy offense.

I would greatly prefer some fresh/outside the organization blood.

I've thought for a good while Vic Fangio... mainly because they need a new Vic to ask, "Ask Vic" questions too 👅 (joke)... but really because MM liked Capers scheme and knowledge... and well, Fangio has similar scheme but maybe better knowledge and execution. Funny you said Friday, because I said to someone, I expected Fangio to be signed by Friday 👍

Gus Bradley worries me a tad in how quickly he went from seem to rise.. went from North Dakota State Defensive coordinator to NFL head coach in 8 years... there has to be some luck there. That being said, I think he's run multiple defenses with the Seahawks, (unless the second one was with a different coordinator, but I think they might of made the switch with Bradley).

But since the Packers have gotten away from press coverage CBs, I have felt like the Packers WR have really struggled when they face in games, as they whine to the refs why they aren't calling the defenders, instead of simply beating the defenders.... if Bradley brings in that press coverage, it might help with King... also Bradley's Jaguars are the ones that gave House the huge contract to be a #1 press coverage guy. And Randall has used press a couple of times very well, but normally doesn't.

Pettine was a pretty fiery guy when he was the HC at Cleveland, and he has more wins than fuckin Hue Jackson, so I say he did fine there. I say that slightly, but hey it's the damn Browns.

He's a Rex Ryan guy, and I've been saying I want Rex Ryan in GB. I'd say he'd be the next best thing. With Gunether out, I wouldn't mind having Pettine or Fangio. Mike needs HC types because I doubt he can help much on his own.
