Packers Were Playing for Overtime

Would things have been different? We'll never know, but the Green Bay Packers were supposed to be playing for overtime against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

I was yelling at the TV when the announcers called running the ball on 3rd down “playing it safe”. The Steelers would have had time to move it downfield for a FG either way, and it’s unlikely with so little time on the clock they’d use all three timeouts anyways. Running the ball was “afraid of Hundley making a mistake” and “putting the game in the defense’s hands to not give up ~40 yards”. Absolutely should have gone for the first down and possibly the win. If they can’t score at least they’re holding the ball instead of giving it back. Worst case scenario the Steelers have one more timeout.

If they were just playing for OT, why would they line up in shotgun and try to pass on the last drive?

Ok Brown was double covered the entire game until the last drive? And rookie King had him all by his lonesome one on one. Why did Capers not give him help? Some of you were saying Capers used the extra guy for the pass rush. What pass rush?

With our defense, you should never play for overtime. It's a forgone conclusion that you will lose .
