Looking back at the Bears game and I am seeing the change many of us have wanted to see with McCarthy's play calling for some time now. Instead of watching vertical pass routes across the board, he is back to what the west coast offense has been known for quick short high percentage passing. It looked like this offense did when McCarthy first got the job. Over the years and with the success he has had with Rodgers, the play calling had morphed into more vertical routes and using Rodgers escape ability and extending the plays. Hundley isn't to that level and it showed in the first games.

Plays where 3 WR to one side and all three run in breaking routes no deeper than 5 yards and look for YAC. These are the types of play calls and routes that got this team success with Jennings, Driver, Jones, Nelson where they depended on the receivers getting YAC and setting up deep plays as the defense tried to squeeze down on the short routes. Hopefully this trend in play calling continues as it not only helps a young QB, it also helps the offensive line. Keep it up and get back into the habit so when Rodgers returns he can get back to what really made him successful in the beginning.

I don't think Hundley could have passes that were shorter than the ones he threw the first few games.
YAC was only a dream.

If I were to guess, 70% were not check down because he threw quick &/or there were blockers set up for a screen pass.
Another substantial group of passes were 1 yd past the Los.

Like them to run some of these quick passes with Davis or Janis. If we are going to try and rely on YAC why not use our speed guys?

But the point was, I've seen a difference in the play calling at least against the Bears where they were running more traditional WCO short routes instead of what McCarthy and Rodgers had developed this offense into.
