Wow! This is a STUNNER! I applaud Ted for taking a swing...the results do matter, but the mindset matters just as much or more. Much credit for taking the bat off the shoulder for once. This was a shot on a star that just didn't work out. Martellus has mental issues based on everything I've seen and heard from him but he was the kind of crazy you want on your side.
In hindsight, failing to get a deal done with Jared Cook really cost us, as he's having a fine year in Oakland and was one of Rodgers favorites. Martellus was an unmitigated disaster but he offered much in the run game and helped erase the soft label we have.
If Ted is sticking around this will make him even more reluctant to add star power to a roster that sorely lacks and needs it.
My guess is the real story is Martellus knew we had no shot of even being competitive with 12 gone and he wasn't going to stick around for this nightmare.
Now, we're back to needing a TE as I'm not sure Kendricks is anything and Richard Rodgers is nothing more than a 3rd TE. We had enough needs to fill without TE becoming one. The list is long in Green Bay.
Wondering how 12 feels about his departure? I'm guessing deep down Aaron is glad. Guessing 12 saw Bennett as high maintenance and had to be handled in a certain manner that wasn't comfortable for him.
Ted Thompson sits on his hands per former GM: "because they’ve had 25 fricking years of great quarterbacks. Of course it works. Try it without a special quarterback."
