I think the clock is broken.

If you had foreseen nose tackle Kenny Clark becoming one of the most productive players on defense, inside linebacker Blake Martinez ranking seventh in the NFL in tackles and rookie cornerback Kevin King giving up just one touchdown in the first seven games, you probably would have predicted the Green Bay Packers' defense finally would have turned the corner by now.

But here it is, approaching the midway point of the season, and nothing has changed with defensive coordinator Dom Capers’ unit.

It is woefully lacking in pass rush, it can’t get off the field on third down, it can’t stop anybody in the red zone and its run defense is ranked in the bottom quarter of the league.

Same weaknesses it has had for years. Inconsistent pass rush and weak over the middle in passing.

Pass rush I'm putting it on the players, the guys down front are not beating the guys across from them, not a whole lot Dom can do about that. All he could do is blitz more to create more pressure but that weakens the backend more.

the weak pass defense over the middle is something I can't understand how they haven't addressed. Every other team sees it and exploits it against us, all the fans see it. either Mike and Dom are blind and can't see it, or they can't figure out how to fix the issue. I don't think it is a player talent issue because it has been ongoing for many years and many different combinations of talent Our guys are not that much less talented then the rest of the guys in the NFL So that makes me believe it is a hole in the scheme Dom can't figure out.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

Honestly, I think 90% of this comes down to pass rush. We can't get pressure with 4 and the more men we send the more exposed we are elsewhere. This especially hurts us on 3rd and long, where QBs regularly have 3, 4, 5 seconds to get the ball out even if we're sending extra men on a blitz.

Dom needs to get creative and someone(s) needs to step up.

Where has our media been all these years? They're coming up with all these kind of articles NOW? It's been YEARS on a lot of these issues that "all of a sudden" they're getting around to noticing?

With all the negativity floating around here I guess there's nothing else to do but wait till Monday Night.
Packers lose and everyone's happy.

Packers win , they still suck, they just played a team that sucked more.

You know I want regime change, and the best way to effect that is by losing just like in the Sherman era when Ted forced it. I do think it would be so deliciously poetic, if he and MM got the boot not trying to tank but tanking because of 12's absence. It ain't gonna happen, but I can admit that I would enjoy it thoroughly because of my well documented thoughts on the pairing.

Lions never beat us with Barry Sanders the GOAT at RB. They've not been putrid for 25 years. Not a good road team outside those domes they've been in.

To say you have, well....I just wonder what team you watched the last 2 weeks.
Aaron Rodgers covered up a HUGE amount of weaknesses with his play. Being able to keep the team in the game when our defense gave up score after score.
They don't have that now.
Expecting a new unproven guy to do that....well...I think that's asking too much.
Had TT, MM and Capers done something to improve this awful defense, maybe we would have a chance to hang with other teams. But no pass rush, and D-backs that let guys get wide open every down, you can't cover up that kind of weakness with an average or below average QB.

The outcome of Monday's game does not matter.
Packers win it won't be because Hundley played a great gsme, or because the defense played well.
The reason The Packers win is because The Lions suck.
You don't dare give the players or the coaching staff any credit.
The verdict has been layed down.

The Packers screwed up 11 years ago by hiring Ted Thompson!
His only good draft pick , was his first, and that pick just fell in his lap.
Since then it has been one horrible pick after another.
Ted hired Mike, according to the "all knowing, he has road the coatails of said draft pick since day 1.

Aaron Rodgers walked off The Cal field onto Lambeau field a 2 time MVP , 1st ballot HOF candidate.
He has only been held back by the above mentioned points.

Is everything I just wrote bullshit?
Absolutely!

But this is what is expected here now.

Try to start a positive thread, you get shouted down.
Pretty sad when this forum which once included several really knowledgeable football fans is now dominated by one who only wantsto prove to the rest that he is right. Period!
Don't believe me?
Check and see who generates the most threads.
Check the other threads and see who has to turn them into "it's all about me"
In just tired of the same old topics get hashed and rehashed, over and over again

So I'm jumping on board!

BLOW THIS WHOLE THING UP.
FIRE EVERYONE!

Because the online football genius says so!

They're was a time when The members here would actually discuss football.

The Packers win Monday night if they run for more than 150yds and don't turn the ball over.

Buckeye, there is no reason to get that worked up. Yes, I know that some like to "rule" the site. And I get tired of it too.

I love the Packers, and will be a fan if they are great, so so, or suck.
I'm hoping they can pull it together and not suck the rest of the year. It's much more fun when they win!

Just don't let some yahoo control you, or he "wins".

There is no clock ticking on Capers or his D.

It is performing within the range it has performed the past 6 seasons and that performance has been acceptable to head coach Mike McCarthy and GM Ted Thompson.

And I may be wrong but didn't McCarthy tell the assembled media that Capers is a great or outstanding defensive coach earlier this year?

Dom is not going anywhere anytime soon as long as Mike and Ted are in control.
