Is it really the offense taking their foot off the gas? Or just the normal ebb and flow of a game? The other team's defense figuring it out?
As far as our defense getting "worn out", could that be from them constantly having to chase the other team's offense up and down the field?
A decent defense can hold onto a lead. You KNOW the other team has to throw the ball to catch up. This SHOULD give you an advantage, with your D players being able to take control of a game by putting pressure on their QB. But our D couldn't seem to pressure ANYONE. And our D=backs couldn't cover a WR with a blanket.
Our defense let us down WAY too many times. Look at the NFC title game. This game was a blow out because of our having no defense. One of the few times our offense couldn't get going. Maybe if we had a half decent defense that could have at least gave us a chance, our offense could have got on track.
But we were blown away so fast, there was no chance.
I imagine our offense must have been getting tired of ALWAYS having to be the one to win the game for us.
It's about time our D does something to win some games for us.
The ONLY one I remember from last year was the Seattle game. And many of the turnovers were from dumb luck, not because our guys made great plays. INT's from passes dropped by the WR's, that with luck landed in the hands of our D. Not because our guys were in great position. Only ONE that I remember was a great play by our DB.
I just want a DECENT defense, I'm not asking for the greatest in the NFL. Just one that can hold up their end of the deal when push comes to shove.
And I don't blame Capers for this. He's not on the field letting WR's run free.

But the defense has been a bigger problem and I lay that at the feet of Ted Thompson.
His personnel decisions on the defensive side of the ball have been pathetic.
Which is strange because his life in football was on the defensive side of the ball.
I don't blame Capers either, he has to deal with the poor personnel that Thompson hands him.

ATM I can't find the cite but I recall seeing MM has a 83-3 record when leading by double digits at any time in a game (it might be 2+ scores.)  For comparison, Bill Belichek is something like 156-8.  (the numbers are relative because I don't recall the actual values.)

blown 11 point leads, where a TD, 2pt Conversion and Field Goal would tie. BB has coached 388 total games to MM's 194. MM has blown leads in 6 of these games, where BB has blown leads in 13. This means that MM blows leads in about 4.6% of games whereas BB blows leads in 4.4% of games.

Not sure where the author got the percentages as they appear just wrong.  BB has twice as many games coached as MM yet has more than twice as many blown leads.  Also, I don't think the author went back to BB's previous coaching stint.

OK found my source. It's MM 81-3 vs BB 136-6 in games with a 14+ point lead.
