In many countries as well as in America's past, Public Hangings following a proper trial are/were a strong reason to not commit certain crimes. Just the idea of such a punishment could deter some from ever attempting to commit the most serious of crimes.

In the past such things as Pirating, Rape, Murder, and Arson could see the convicted criminal Hanged in a very public venue. It was said to be so horrific a site sometimes as to cause some to faint as they watched it take place. Bringing back this severe punishment could send the strong message that our society is not going to tolerate the crimes of Treason, Terrorism, and (IMO) Computer Hacking.

If seeing a few Computer Hackers swing from the Gallows does not send a clear message, nothing will .

I would also say, let people bid on who gets to pull the lever. Why not generate some voluntary government revenue in the process.

Some people say capital punishment doesn't stop crimes.....well, a person that gets hung because of their crimes won't commit anymore crimes, right?
It also sends a message to those that are considering committing such crimes.

In today's world, criminals are so used to getting a "slap on the wrist'', and they are back on the streets, that prison has become a revolving door.
Let the punishment fit the crime! Prison SHOULD be for punishment. If you get rehabilitated, GREAT!

Now, you go to prison, get all your meals, room and board, all medical care. Better then many people live outside of prison. Is that "justice?"

The real truth is that if you can't prove your innocent of a crime, you will get ROYALLY SCREWED .

Prosecutors charge crimes at a higher level for two reasons, getting a plea is one, and the second being that a jury cannot find somebody guilty of a higher crime, but they can find them guilty on a lesser charge. So you charge with Murder and there is still the chance of manslaughter if the jury doesn't find the evidence proved the murder case.

As for Navy meals, I've eaten my share and enjoyed it every time. In addition, unless you have spent more than a few days in a jail or prison and can compare from personal experience the meals, as I have, then shut the fuck up as you don't know what your posting about .

If you haven't spent 6 months deployed only able to eat what can be stored on the ship, then you should shut the flock up as you don't know what you are talking about.

Show me a prison where you have 45 men, stacked in a space smaller than most living rooms sharing two shitters, 2 pissers, 3 showers, and 4 sinks. You make 15 prisoners sleep in the area I had and you would see lawsuits left and right for being cruel and unusual punishment.

PFTwins, even I know about resupply Ships and Ports/Naval Bases. I can't think of a place on the Globe where a Navy Ship could not get resupplied or be within range of a friendly port. I did however meet my share of Sailors that complained about their berths, and their jobs, and the weather, and their officers,
and the Laundry Service, and their fellow Sailors, and the food on the mess decks, and the fact that they ever joined the Navy at all. I for one could really go for a few good ole Sliders right now with some good ole bug juice as well . A Salad Bar, fresh milk (while it last), Deserts and Seconds if you are still hungry . Jails don't offer seconds on their Bologna and White bread lunch or extra portions of the Beans that are the reg. fare.

In addition, if you have never spent any time in a jail/prison , how can you post about it. You may have been limited to your ship , but you were still free (when not on duty) to go out on deck or visit the Ships Store or go have a cup of coffee with a friend in another dept. . Your freedom on board a ship at sea is much the same as the rest of the crew. Also I know that all ships heads/showers are cleaned and maintained regularly by the duty section responsible. Your freedom in a jail/prison is only just what the guards can allow.

Yes they can replenish the ship while underway, but don't forget that the food has to get to the supply ship, then it has to chug its way to meet us where ever were are along with all the other ships it needs to re-supply. So the food when it gets to us is already a week or more old, greatly reducing the amount of fresh we can have. During Desert Storm, we went 35 days without getting mail which can be brought by any helo, let alone fresh food. hell yeah bug juice is great, not only tastes good but does a tremendous job of shinning brass.

Will get no sympathy from me for criminals. They should have far worse living conditions than what our soldiers who protect us have to deal with.
