Favorite Pick: Dupre

Most Impactful Pick in 2017: Adams

Sleeper: Jones

Grade: J'ai aucune idée (sorry guys in full time French for work)

I think Dupre may leapfrog a few guys on the roster. I have to admit I hope this pans out, but it is hard to feel strong when we are drafting DBs in round 1 and 2 only 2 years after drafting DBs in round 1 and 2. I know we need a replacement for Sam and always need to be looking forward, but it is hard to be nervous on what the future holds for Randall and Rollins and whether we are admitting defeat on those picks.

I know we just dropped two RBs, but I still don't get drafting 3 RBs. I like the competition, but we are pretty much drafting guys to either lose them or hope they stick to the PS. Would have rather taken an additional OL or a Punter to be honest than a 3rd RB.

My sleeper ranking for Jones is I think he is a given contributor. I just think he may have the intangibles to be something special for this team. I don't want to jinx him, but I would love to see another Nick Collins on this team.

Thank you for that information Buck , I did not obviously know that before . Seems like a small number to me . I may just procure the invite list and compare it with the entire 2017 Draft. might prove to be most interesting .

Something I noticed is the Packers invite their allotment but seem to rarely draft someone they've invited. I'm not sure if that holds true over the last few years, but was something I noticed when I was trying to predict who they'd select.

But they also use them on players for other questions... like they used one on TE Jermichael Finley, which most seemed to question why was he coming out of college early when some thought he might be a 1st round selection if he said in college another year.

But I agree with your point, that overall they rarely seem to draft the guys that they invite... though they usually sign a few as undrafted FAs. Of course the players they're usually inviting in have questions because the Packers need to see more, because they have questions, and it all depends on how they verbal, mental or physical questions are answered.

The most exciting portion of the offseason, for me, has passed. And I'd love to hear your guys' thoughts on the draft:

Maybe I'm being too hopeful, but this selection has me having flash backs (in some ways) to Nick Collins' selection... NO I don't think he'll be an amazing FS like colleges, but I do think Jones could change the Packers defense.

I believe Jones could become a great SS/ILB type, as the NFL is looking for more and more speed/coverage SS and LBers... and the Packers just found one that's almost the same size as their current coverage LB Joe Thomas. I believe Jones could be the future starting SS and dime LB that has CB (straight line) speed, SS size and LB hitting.

Most Impactful Pick in 2017: RB Jamaal Williams, 6'0", 212
When I think Most Impactful, I think most needed, and the Packers needed a power RB to go with Montgomery and Williams fits that bill. Doesn't really have speed, but he has quickness, power, can find the hole and his pass blocking is above average for a college RB. Plus, there is clearly an opening at #2 RB right now.

Short Term Sleeper: RB Devante Mays, 5'11", 230
Basically the same for above with Williams with two differences. One Mays power is more speed-to-power and not pure power like Williams, basically Mays needs to get moving to get power where as Williams seem to push a pile when stopped and when he has room to get going, Mays has built up speed too. I believe Mays would of been drafted higher if he didn't have an injury filled last year.

Long Term Sleeper: C Kofi Amichia 6'4", 297
I could be completely wrong about this selection, but the Packers have normally be right on the money when drafting centers (which is what Amichia was announced as, and NFL.com has him listed at), and Amichia said he started as a center his freshmen year before moving to OT. Like Mays above, Amichia had an injury filled last season, but has good physical potential. He needs to get stronger and might on the bubble as a rookie, if the Packers are able to hang onto him, I believe he'll develop into a good player.

Grade: You can't fairly grade a draft until at least 3 years after the draft
Look at WR Jordy Nelson... that draft looked question at first with only Sitton breaking out as rookie, then Finley in year 2 and FINAL Nelson in the second half of his 3rd year and turned out to be a great draft.

I think the 2015 draft is still in question and they have another year to go for the 3 year mark.

Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : sounds like Packers don't get good compensation, Jaire staying
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : two 1sts in 2022 and two 2nd's in 2023 and 2024
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers had fortunate last three drafts.
dfosterf (15-Apr) : I may have to move
dfosterf (15-Apr) : My wife just told the ancient Japanese sushi dude not enough rice under his fish
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I think a dozen is what I need
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Go fund me for this purpose just might work. A dozen nurses show up at 1265 to provide mental health assistance.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Maybe send a crew of Angels to the Packers draft room on draft day.
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I am the Angel that gets visited.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Visiting Angels has a pretty good reputation
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : what
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : WINNING IT, not someone else losing it. The best victory though was re-uniting with his wife
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : The manner in which he won it was just amazing and wonderful. First blowing the lead then getting back, then blowing it. But ultimately
Zero2Cool (12-Apr) : I'm guessing since the thumb was broken, he wasn't feeling it.
dfosterf (10-Apr) : Looking for guidance. Not feeling the thumb.
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : If they knew about it or not
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : I don't recall that he did which is why I asked.
Zero2Cool (10-Apr) : Guessing they probably knew. Did he have cast or something on?
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : Did they know that at the time or was that something the realized afterwards?
Zero2Cool (9-Apr) : Van Ness played most of season with broken thumb
wpr (9-Apr) : yay
Zero2Cool (9-Apr) : Mark Murphy says Steelers likely to protect Packers game. Meaning, no Ireland
Zero2Cool (8-Apr) : Struggling to figure out what text editor options are needed and which are 'nice to have'
Mucky Tundra (8-Apr) : *CHOMP CHOMP CHOMP*
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : WR who said he'd break Xavier Worthy 40 time...and ran slower than you
Mucky Tundra (2-Apr) : Who?
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : Texas’ WR Isaiah Bond is scheduled to visit the Bills, Browns, Chiefs, Falcons, Packers and Titans starting next week.
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : Spotting ball isn't changing, only measuring distance is, Which wasn't the issue.
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : The spotting of the ball IS the issue. Not the chain gang.
