Across the NFL, many of the front-office executives who help shape their teams' drafts have always viewed Ted Thompson as almost a God-like figure. He is, by some, literally worshipped. They see the Packers' general manager as an OG, a genius, a model for how to run a team. They look at Thompson the …

Thank you for the article, good read. I do wonder if Ted Thompson has indeed changed, or if more moves are being handled by someone else, perhaps the eventual successor, perhaps ... Eliot Wolf?

I see very little different this year as compared to past. Ted looks into FA every year, not every year does it work as well. We remember Pickett, Woodson because the worked, we remember Peppers, Guion because they were recent and somewhat successful. Don't know if people forget some of the others, like Marquand Manuel, Kendrick Allen, Brandon Chillar, Jeff Saturday, Anthony Hargrove and others that didn't have the same success. Not to mention moves like picking Howard Green off waivers. And that doesn't include the FA that he tried for and didn't get like Lynch or Arrington.

This year he had probably his most success at signing some, yet to see how well it works out.

The draft looks pretty much normal for Ted, he didn't jump at the shinny object and he didn't go "All-In", he maximized his picks and got a healthy mix of talent for the teams future. To me it looks like Ted is still the same Ted that has kept this team young and competitive.

I'm with PFWT: Nothing has changed.

Ted signs his own FAs as long as he doesn't have to significantly overpay. If there is money left over he will sign as many FAs as he can if they: (1) will help the team; (2) will come to GB [Many wont]; and (3) wont require a significant overpay. And weighing into the word "overpay" is not only salary, but the gain or loss of draft capital.

If he still has money left over, it'll be used to extend guys before they hit Free agency.

This draft was classic Ted; its all BPA!
If his #1 pick was about measurables; Ted would have traded up ahead of Buffalo to get King; or stayed put at #29 to draft a guy with historically great CB measurables at a position of need; and have the 5th yr option in his pocket. But Ted saw he had about 6-7 guys in the same tier; he could move back and get a player of similar quality. This proves Ted had no special love for King. I'm assuming there was about 6-7 guys in the tier because it seems he tired to trade down again and if there were 10-12-15 guys another deal would have probably gotten done; but because there were only 2-3-4 guys left in the King-tier, the trade down options were very limited and Ted couldn't find a partner.

At #2, Ted didn't need a safety, he needed a edge guy or an OLman.

At #3 Ted didn't need a DT, but Adams was the BPA.

The deeper you go into the draft, the larger the tiers become. Once you get into the 4th, the tiers become so large they probably contain a player from most if not all position groups; unless some random highly rated player slipped thru the cracks. Then the BPA also becomes the player of greatest position need in the tier.

Don't get me wrong, I like the moves he made with House, Kendricks, Francios but like PFWT and BF said they are pretty much standard Ted fare. Guys with some upside that can come in and contribute without costing an arm and a leg. As far as the draft goes, again he didn't go out and get game changers. He took what came to him and got guys that look they may be able to contribute. He didn't really reach for anyone and he didn't ignore needs either.

I think the biggest thing that may cause people to think something has changed is the number of FAs he signed but I don't doubt that he would have done something similar in other years if the guys would have been there.

Did anyone notice how Ted talks kind of funny, like something might be physically wrong with him?
Not trying to be a wise guy, it really seems like he may have had a stroke or something. Kind of slurring his speech.

Mucky Tundra (2h) : Or ties, but let's be real here
Mucky Tundra (2h) : Other scenario was Falcons+Rams losses
Mucky Tundra (2h) : Needed a Falcons loss for a Seahawk loss to clinch
buckeyepackfan (2h) : Am I wring in saying if Tge Vikings beat The Seahawks, The Packers clinch?
Mucky Tundra (21-Dec) : Agreed; you stinks
Zero2Cool (21-Dec) : I'm not beating anyone. I stinks.
Mucky Tundra (21-Dec) : rough injury for tank dell. guy can't catch abreak
beast (21-Dec) : So far the college playoffs have sucked... One team absolutely dominates the other
beast (21-Dec) : Well even if you weren't positive towards a guy, you wouldn't nessarily want to tell the media that (if they don't know about it)
Martha Careful (21-Dec) : I think MLF want Love to look past the end half issues, and feel good about his play. Our coaches generally keep a very positive tone.
beast (21-Dec) : I think a great running game will do that for most QBs
packerfanoutwest (21-Dec) : Coach Matt LaFleur has said quarterback Jordan Love is playing the best football of his career.
beast (21-Dec) : Oh, that's how you keep beating buckeye, with cheating
Zero2Cool (20-Dec) : There is a rule that if your name starts with 'b' you lose 15 points. Hey, I don't make the rules, I just enforce them!
wpr (20-Dec) : and then there is Beast. Running away with it all.
beast (20-Dec) : As of tonight, 3 way tie for 2nd in Pick'em, that battle is interesting!
beast (20-Dec) : Lions vs Vikings could be the main last game as it could determine division winners or #1 vs #2 seed
Mucky Tundra (20-Dec) : Or if KC needs to win for the #1 seed
Mucky Tundra (20-Dec) : Right now it looks like the only prime worthy games are Det-Minny and KC-Denver (if Denver can clinch a wild card spot)
Mucky Tundra (20-Dec) : The entirety of week 18 being listed as flex is weird
Zero2Cool (19-Dec) : Matt LaFleur today says unequivocally "Ted Thompson had nothing to do with the drafting of Jordan Love."
Zero2Cool (19-Dec) : Apparently, the editing is what pieces comments together. That Ted thing ... fake news.
Zero2Cool (19-Dec) : LaFleur "opportunity that Ted Thompson thought was too good to pass up"
Zero2Cool (19-Dec) : Jordan Love pick was Ted Thompson's idea.
Mucky Tundra (19-Dec) : Kyle Shanahan on signing De'Vondre Campbell as a FA last offseason: “We obviously made a mistake.”
packerfanoutwest (19-Dec) : Alexander’s last season with GB
Martha Careful (18-Dec) : if I were a professional athlete, I would probably look to see who the agent is for Kirk Cousins and then use him
beast (18-Dec) : $100 million fully guaranteed Kirk Cousins gets benched for rookie
Mucky Tundra (18-Dec) : a lower case b
Mucky Tundra (18-Dec) : The real lie is how beast capitalized his name in his message while it's normally spelled with
packerfanoutwest (18-Dec) : haha that's a lie
beast (17-Dec) : Despite what lies other might tell, Beast didn't hate the Winter Warnings, it felt refreshing to Beast for some reason.
Zero2Cool (17-Dec) : whiteout uniforms in general are pretty lame and weak. NFL greed at it's worst
Martha Careful (17-Dec) : The Viking uniforms, the whiteout uniforms specifically absolutely suck
beast (17-Dec) : Thanks Zero2Cool, looks a lot better now
beast (17-Dec) : Seems like someone has a crush on me, can't stop talking about me
Zero2Cool (17-Dec) : Should be gooder now. The forum default theme went to goofy land.
Zero2Cool (17-Dec) : What the hell
packerfanoutwest (17-Dec) : yeah beast hates the Winter Warning Unies
Mucky Tundra (16-Dec) : Okay I'm glad to know it's not just something happening to me lol
Mucky Tundra (16-Dec) : Zero, did you copy the Packers uniforms from last night and white out the board?
beast (16-Dec) : Oh crap, is the board going to the Winter Warning Uniforms too?!? It's all white on white right now!
Zero2Cool (16-Dec) : WR Odell Beckham Jr is officially a free agent after clearing waivers.
Zero2Cool (16-Dec) : Packers are 6th in sacks.
Zero2Cool (16-Dec) : RB David Montgomery will undergo season-ending knee surgery.
Mucky Tundra (16-Dec) : Dan Campbell on onside kick with 12 minutes left: In hindsight, wish I didn’t do that
Zero2Cool (16-Dec) : They have that whole 12th man thing so ...
Zero2Cool (16-Dec) : Of the times we've played there, I just can't recall hearing our fans.
