The 1st amendment is first because it is the most important. The open robust debate and learning how to disagree with respect and scholarship that forms the very foundation pretext for the existence of an American/democratic form of government.
To espouse a ban, exile, silence, ridicule, attack and/or harm a person for their ideas is an affront to democratic principles, it is not the behavior of a patriot; it's actually seditious.
