Just curious what the thinking is here. Personally, I hope he truly goes BPA. I'm tired of the need picks that are couched as BPA's or a hybrid BPA/Need pick. IE: Needed a S so took Ha Ha a few years ago #1. We seem to do an awful lot of need picking that is sold as BPA. Richard Rodgers comes to mind. Same goes for Kenny Clark this year. Just so "strange" how we always seem to get lucky. The best player on the board is just the one at he position we most need. Ha ha. Right.

Now, the big question is... Do you really want Ted burning high picks on defense? It's not worked out too well over the years. 9 out of 12 1st rounders have been spent on the D. That's way too many for far too little return.

Would like to see a WR taken 1st overall if a highly touted prospect like Ross is on the board at 29. Jordy is nearing the end. I'm not sold on Adams, and Cobb has proven to be only a complementary guy. Would love to see a TE taken high. Really wish we'd taken Hunter Henry. That kid is very good already.

The fear is we're going to reach for a CB because it's so obvious we need one. The last thing we need is the next Ahmad Carroll. Please, don't reach for a CB. We already have Randall and Rollins who look like failures at this point.

Would love to finally find an OLB especially if Perry doesn't return. Clay needs to go, or be moved back inside. Peppers is done, and Fackrell makes a telephone poll look like a telephone booth.

Hoping if we add a defensive player, again, up high he plays with a mean streak like Brice. We're missing the passion and anger on that side. Some Desmond Bishop type nasty would be very welcome. I don't believe Jake Ryan is any kind of answer and is in dire need of upgrading. Martinez showed out on occasion and if Clay isn't going to be in there with him, I don't know we should roll with Joe Thomas. Love the guy for what he gives us for where he came from, but need more there.

Burnett needs to go. We need a new leader back there. Someone bright and tough. Hoping Brice can make that step but not sure he's ever going to be a great cover guy. He's a box player who should be up close and used like Woodson was for blitzing and sure tackling.

Oh, and if Ted could send a pick for a passionate D Coord to some other time, I'd honestly do it. 😁

In summation, I really really really hope we don't go defense heavy just because it's a need and fill our draft up with reaches. We're picking 29th each round. That lends to more reaching. Not sure I want to see Ted trade up anymore unless there's a talent that we're all just screaming at the TV for who keeps falling.

We need to get someone who can actually make a real difference for us THIS YEAR out of this draft. It's been awhile since we've gotten a player who truly changed our fortunes right out of the gate.

Ted Thompson sits on his hands per former GM: "because they’ve had 25 fricking years of great quarterbacks. Of course it works. Try it without a special quarterback."

I don't scout college players so I can't say too much. Based on history, I would rather he traded his 1st round pick for 2nd 3rd 4th etc picks cuz we kind of miss the boat on 1st rounders.

Could see someone like Christian McCaffrey to challenge Eddie Lacy,
Although really I see CB/Defense being taken first again

Just like last year, I would like to see him trade out of the first round.
He just can't seem to find his way in round one.

A big part of the problem with Teddy is he keeps taking projects with his #1.

2005 Just plain dumb luck that Aaron fell to #24. I don;t care how anyone else spins it. He was considered a sure 1-2 choice entering the draft.

2006 Hawk. I wish the draft would have been filled with more studs. It wasn't. I give Ted a pass.

2007 Bustin Harrolle, "Could be a top 10 pick EXCEPT THAT HE WAS INJURED IN COLLEGE." Meh.

2008 Traded down and got Jordy. Teddy screwed the pooch with his other 2 2nd round picks.

2009 Raji. Ok nothing great. Will be remembered for his pick is in Chicago.

2010 Bulaga Solid RT.

2011 Sherrod I had hoped that he and Buluga would be the OT for the next 10 years. Injury ruined any chance.

2012 Perry. Wish we would have seen more from him. He steps it up in a contract year. Go figure.

2013 D Jones. The invisible man.

2014 HHCD. One of the better first round selections by Ted which doesn't say much.

2015 Randall. A classic Teddy reach. Should have waited a round or two and if some other team took him fine but letter CBs walk for two straight years put GB in a bind.

20016 Clark a very young kid that was probably taken sooner that he should have gone but Ted likes to reach and then hope the player will grow. Only a few do.

Some guys with projected rounds that I am looking at that intrigue me:

Round 1: Takkarist McKinley OLB

Round 2: T.J Watt OLB (likely a move up scenario), Jourdan Lewis CB, Cooper Kupp WR

Round 3: Derek Rivers DE, Jordan Willis DE

Round 4: Adam Shaheen TE, Connor Harris ILB

Round 5-6: Dylan Donahue OLB, James Conner RB(injury and cancer history but looks like a pounder)

Round 6-7: Jordan Morgan OG, Jerry Ogokwe OT(seems like a great project super big tall dude)

I selected quite a few small school guys, but I think that in some areas we can take a bit of a risk that guys who are big dogs in smaller programs can help us if we give them a year to develop and not be pressured to contribute right away.

I always want best available player, with very few caveats. The Packers need more talent in any way they can get it. Use free agency to fill a couple glaring needs (resign Perry, Lang, 1-year prove it deal for Lacy, add another pass rusher and/or ILB), and take whatever the draft gives you. Reaching for need never pays off.
