On the play with Ty was injured, I thought the forward progress had stopped and they made the right call. I would have felt like way if it was any other team. My friend says that's not how forward progress works and that he was still fighting for yards regardless. I can't remember. I'm happy about the win, but do you think the refs blew the call there? Also, do you think the Eli fumble was actually a forward pass?

I don't think forward progress was really a great call because it was so quick but they do tend to blow a quick whistle when someone is being bent awkwardly like that so... Either way his knee was down so the result of the play was still correct

The NFL is much quicker to give forward progress these days.

At a glance I that Manning was bringing his hand forward thus incomplete but they reviewed it so he must not have.

The thing that GB has done the past few wees that I think should be disallowed is when the RB (Typically Montgomery is in a scrum and one of the OLmen comes running in and hits the whole group they give GB the full forward progress. Many times he is hitting another Packer. Today I saw him hit a NYG player. Today a case could be made that he was merely blocking a defender on a live ball. The other times I thought the refs could have thrown a flag for pushing the RB forward. (I think Rip's TD was aided by one of the linemen in his back.)

The NFL is really inconsistent in how they apply forward progress and has been for a long time now. Thought it was an odd ruling.

By the time Manning's hand was coming forward, the ball was already out of his hand, thus a correct call. Just because his hand pushed the ball forward doesn't make it a forwrd pass if the ball is already loose.

The QB fumble vs forward pass seems to keep getting ruled differently which makes it a bit harder to call... but personally it looked like a clear fumble at full speed to me, Eli's arm, and the ball, are going up when Matthews make contact with the ball, and then Eli's arm goes forward... and Peppers reacted like it was a fumble as well (other than not willing to knock am unexpected guy to the ground for it like Matthews was)... so I think that was fairly clear and more straight forward than a lot of those fumble/pass plays.

Sec. 2 Article 1 defines when a dead ball is declared. "...(b) when a runner is held or otherwise restrained so that his forward progress ends."

It's pure judgment and is not dependent, per se, on whether the feet of the runner are moving, though if the ref sees the feet moving he may think the runner still has a chance to break a tackle or fall forward.

I think the whistle on the Monty play was a little quick. But once it was blown, that's it, the play is over and even if there is a fumble it cannot be reviewed nor can the ball be given to the other team [unless a full recovery is made before the whistle]. They said forward progress was stopped only because one ref blew a whistle. If the one ref didn't blow the whistle another ref may have given ball to NY and/or the play could have been reviewed.

That ref will get a talkin' to for the quick whistle. They are instructed to not blow the whistle too quick so if an error is made it can be fixed after review.

Fans around us were asking why are they still going, play is dead. You could tell his progress was stopped pretty quick there. Even the drunks saw that, lol.

That being said, I would rather a late whistle than a quick whistle. E.g. the Clay Matthews sack fumble recovery type of play.

I think the quick whistle was partly to do with the way he was being bent awkwardly. I've seen quick whistles before when players get put in weird positions.

They need to blow the whistle faster on more plays rather than fewer. I can do without the junk yardage that happens after a play gets stacked up.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : sounds like Packers don't get good compensation, Jaire staying
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : two 1sts in 2022 and two 2nd's in 2023 and 2024

dfosterf (14-Apr) : Go fund me for this purpose just might work. A dozen nurses show up at 1265 to provide mental health assistance.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Maybe send a crew of Angels to the Packers draft room on draft day.
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I am the Angel that gets visited.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Visiting Angels has a pretty good reputation
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : what
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : WINNING IT, not someone else losing it. The best victory though was re-uniting with his wife
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : The manner in which he won it was just amazing and wonderful. First blowing the lead then getting back, then blowing it. But ultimately
Zero2Cool (12-Apr) : I'm guessing since the thumb was broken, he wasn't feeling it.
dfosterf (10-Apr) : Looking for guidance. Not feeling the thumb.
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : If they knew about it or not
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : I don't recall that he did which is why I asked.
Zero2Cool (10-Apr) : Guessing they probably knew. Did he have cast or something on?
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : Did they know that at the time or was that something the realized afterwards?
Zero2Cool (9-Apr) : Van Ness played most of season with broken thumb
wpr (9-Apr) : yay
Zero2Cool (9-Apr) : Mark Murphy says Steelers likely to protect Packers game. Meaning, no Ireland
Zero2Cool (8-Apr) : Struggling to figure out what text editor options are needed and which are 'nice to have'
Mucky Tundra (8-Apr) : *CHOMP CHOMP CHOMP*
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : WR who said he'd break Xavier Worthy 40 time...and ran slower than you
Mucky Tundra (2-Apr) : Who?
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : Texas’ WR Isaiah Bond is scheduled to visit the Bills, Browns, Chiefs, Falcons, Packers and Titans starting next week.
