NFL'S Adam Schefter reports that the chiefs have traded for PATS QB Matt Cassel

Could kc be the surprise team in 09?

Your thoughts?

I think Matt Cassell is hugely overrated. I mean he didn't have THAT great of a season in the Patriots. He had a top 10 season sure, but when you consider the weapons he had it's really no surprise. I think he'll do good in the Chiefs, if he gets on the same page with Bowe and Gonzalez, but the Chiefs are still not a playoff-team.

One less OT available to us in the 1st round of the draft, another 15 mil available to the Cheatriots, plus whatever draft picks the chiefs gave them, less likelihood of aquiring Gonzales (no biggie to me, but...), Detroit more likely to take Stafford, Sanchez' draft stock probably falls, NFL network can now say that the Pack is the biggest loser in the FA period (They were saying KC and us), KC will be out about 70+ million, hmmm, that's about it for now.

One less OT? I don't see how this affects us drafting OTs. The Chiefs will draft Aaron Curry.

lol this is a good trade, I actually did it first in madden but I traded some bum a 3rd for him and I must say, Cassel looks good in a KC uniform. I always liked Kansas City but in reality this is a risky trade but im excited for the Cheifs. I think with some o line help and some help at WR, Cassel will do fine. I'm jus waiting to see Cassel play for the Cheifs in real life, instead of Madden, lol.

the sentiment around NFP is that the pats shipped off Vrabel and Cassell for a 2nd round pick. Chiefs got good value in the trade. Patriots got a fair value on a decent player. Value they wouldn't have gotten had Brady not blowed up his knee.

Its a good move for KC. They now don't have to worry about addressing this position in the draft. They can add pieces to help him out.

Tell you what, if I were Kansas City, I would seriously look at Michael Crabtree. He would be a HUGE help in the development/success of Cassel. I know they have other areas to address. But you think about it, A solid backfield with Larry Johnson, a security blanket with TG, A solid number 2 in Bowe, and a Big play threat in Crabtree? Very dangerous. They would just need to improve their O-line.

I said something about Cassel yesterday, but I can't find the thread back.

Anyway, as for him being traded to the Chiefs, I don't think it's a great move. What I said in that post in short : Cassel is overrated. That combined with the fact that they have Thigpen on their roster, who could be a great QB in my eyes.

That said, an early second isn't even that much for your potential QB of the future and a veteran LB.

Cassel>Thigpen.

Thigpen may have done a good job in doing his best to help that team win... But they didn't win. Cassel can help that team win.

Now you look to bring in a player with that 3rd pick overall to help him out, whether it be an O-lineman, WR, or whoever they choose to pick.
