McCarthy is a good coach, it just isn't working with this team anymore.

The reason why I don't understand about the argument that a coach has a limited shelf life is that there is such a tremendous amount of turnover on an NFL roster. In eight years, what percentage of a typical roster has turned over? It's got to be at least 80 percent, right? Possibly a lot higher than that?

Let's use the Packers as an example: The longest-tenured player on this team—by several years—is Aaron Rodgers, who also happens to be the only player on the roster whose arrival predates Mike McCarthy's. After Rodgers, the only other players with more than eight years on the roster are Mason Crosby, who was drafted in 2007; Jordy Nelson, drafted in 2008; and Brett Goode, signed in 2008. At the eight-year mark are Clay Matthews III and T.J. Lang, drafted in 2009. So we can see that only 11% of the players on the Green Bay roster have been here for eight or more years, and the Packers are known for being exceptional in their tendency to draft and hold.

It doesn't seem to me like there's enough players on this roster who have been with McCarthy long enough for his message to have gone stale—and it is probable that the Packers actually have less turnover than most teams. Can someone tell me what I am missing?

He may have been great with X's and O's but I think the success this team had made him lackadaisical. He allowed the offense to become dependent on free plays and busted/extended plays. the only thing that has been consistent his entire time in GB is not being able to consistently generate a pass rush.

Belichick is a rare thing in coaching life he seems to reinvent the patriot offense every couple years based on his personnel. McCarthy is the third longest tenured head coach and it from watching games the last few years it definitely looks like defenses have figured him out. he has even said they are not going to change what they do. Well he needs to change what they are doing because it is not working near the level it has. And it could be argued that the only reason it has worked for as long as it did is because of the offensive talent between Favre, Rodgers, Driver, Jennings, Jones and Jordy primarily.

I really hope they can turn it around go on a run and win the Superbowl but the offense has struggled for over a year now. We have a HC/playcaller whose offense we are running, and assistant HC/offense AND an offensive coordinator yet none of them seems to have an answer. I don't think McCarthy is a bad coach or anything but he's very stubborn and it's been a while since we've brought in any good coaches with fresh ideas on that side of the ball.

I know McCarthy is very into the promoting from within thing but in a league based majorly on change and adaptation bringing in some new perspectives isn't a bad thing. I think our current situation is one where we would have benefited from having a HC who is just a HC and not a playcaller who hires other coaches to help run his own system.

I share your sentiment about making a run, but how about for a change, we spend our cap and load the team up for a legitimate shot at a title. I think the fans are owed this, instead of having a penny pinching ultra conservative failing year after year.

All we can do now is watch the season play out.

You just don't get it, do you. The only thing standing between this Packers team and a Super Bowl run is . . .

. . . signing Joique Bell.

Mucky Tundra (8h) : @AaronNagler · 2m Both Jordan Love and Malik Willis were Limited participants at Packers practice today.
Zero2Cool (11h) : Johnson didn't make it until 2020. Ring 2023. 🤷 Personally, he should have been in years prior to Hall.
Zero2Cool (11h) : HUMP DAY
beast (11h) : Guys that have a good shot at making the NFL Hall of Fame usually get into their teams pretty fast
beast (11h) : Yeah, but is Kampman and the others in the NFL Hall of Fame?
Zero2Cool (11h) : Johnson was Hall of Fame, 2020. Should haev been in Ring a year later, not three years.

Zero2Cool (11h) : I guess I see players in Packers Hall come way later
beast (11h) : Yeah, usually teams hall of fames are a much lower bar than the NFL
Zero2Cool (11h) : is it uncommon for Hall before Ring?
Zero2Cool (11h) : S Xavier McKinney named first-team All-Pro by NFLPA
beast (13h) : I missed it, sorry, but he got into the NFL Hall of Fame years before that
Zero2Cool (13h) : Jones took his sweet ole time!
Zero2Cool (13h) : Yeah, he's in the ring of honor, just saw video and his name is up there
Zero2Cool (13h) : Didn't they have a thing in 2023 for Jimmy's ring of honor? I swear I saw it
beast (13h) : Though if they're legitimately trying to re-sign MM, then it makes sense.
beast (13h) : Jerry Jones still hasn't put Jimmy Johnson in the Ring of Honor, but he's in the NFL's Hall of Fame, Jones is petty
Mucky Tundra (8-Jan) : Unless the Cowboys are planning an extension, seems kinda petty
beast (8-Jan) : Cowboys denied Bears request
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : From what I'm reading, MM is under contract through the 14th of January; after that he's free game
Zero2Cool (6-Jan) : McCarthy let go or not extended??
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : Chicago Bears have asked the Dallas Cowboys permission to interview Mike McCarthy for head coaching vacancy
Zero2Cool (6-Jan) : The winners page that is

Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : That might be it for the Vikings
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : Oh so the refs do know what intentional grounding is
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : what the hell was that Goff?! Not much pressure and he just air mails it to Harrison
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : They really need to to get rid of the auto first down for illegal contact
Martha Careful (6-Jan) : watching the Vikings and Lions it's understandable why they swept the Packers. So much better product
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : Even when GB got pressure he was throwing darts; vs no pressure on that last pass he just air mails an open guy
Zero2Cool (6-Jan) : didn't have guys in his face ... pressure makes difference
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : Where was this Darnold vs GB?
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : BALL DON'T LIE
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : how was that not a safety? Goff throws it at an offensive lineman
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : Zero, I thought that was a given! ;)
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : Zero I looked through earlier and noticed the same thing. Bonkers year. I just wonder if beast put any money on games
Zero2Cool (6-Jan) : I'm hoping for BLOODBATH. Pummel one another.
