Good move by the Pack.

If we somehow fool some team into giving him an offer, not only do we get another 2nd round pick--but guys like Jermaine Phillips and Jim Leonhard are in free agency.

From PFT:
Only second round? Sure he was injured most of last season, but I'm a bit surprised they didn't give him the highest level. Maybe Thompson's counting on no one giving him an offer because of the injury, but I wouldn't want to take that chance.

I think they're sort of putting him out there and seeing if they get any bites. If not, he's a good player to have on the team. We can definitely get by with Collins and Rouse as our starters though. Hell, maybe even draft a guy. All of the top S prospects are looking to go in the 2nd or 3rd.

You also have to wonder if Capers had any influence on decisions like these.

The difference between the 1st and 2nd round tender isn't that much. The main team that I could see making a run at Bigby would have been an NFC North foe. The Vikings would have definately offered some poison pill contract if they didn't already have Madieu Williams and Tyrell Jackson back there.

I think people here, and everywhere overvalue second round picks. Would you rather have Bigby on your roster or Pat Lee. Seems like a no brainer to me. Even the last safety we took in the second round, Nick Collins, took a good 4 years to develop.

I wouldn't mind getting the second rounder, but I don't want to see Bigby gone until we see Rouse:

A. stay healthy for a full year
B. improve in coverage

Greg Jennings was a second rounder. Hell Brett Favre was a second rounder in his day.. albeit we gave up a first to get him. Hell Bigby wasn't even drafted.. quality players can be found just about anywhere in today's game, they slip all the time.. but a second round pick has emmense value in terms of slot and salary structure.

Second through probably the fourth round are the bread and butter picks of an organization. Where highly talented kids are selected and clubs can lock up that talent for four years at relative value. First rounders, the risk factor is up due to the size of the contracts. Imagine the deep team on could build with a couple of drafts with multiple second round picks.. yikes.

If anything, I think alot of people undervalue the second and third round picks, with to much hype laid upon the first round..

Bigby isn't going anywhere with the second round tag.. injury questions and coverage liabilities to date decrease his value. I think he has potential as seen late in the 07 season, but for the most part of his two years, he isn't solid in coverage overall.

2nd rounder is about right.

I really like him but he does tend to go for the big hit before the tackle, and for that reason if someone offered it I'd take it

I think the kid is a good football player and the only and the only thing I can say is he was obvioulsly hurting out there and I don't care if you put the top two All-Pro safeties in the league on last years team.

They wouldn't have made All Pro with that lack of pressure in front of them. Not JUST PRESSURE either. Getting into the QB's face and making them move around more would have been nice.

Bigby does make big plays. I would rather not get rid of him...

I love Bigby. His name and his style makes love him. I still have fond memories of him in the 2007 playoffs and he's had bad luck with injuries and should be fine for next season, better strong and wiser. The 3-4 will allow him to blitz more often and he should thrive in the new system.

What are you talking about? We haven't had an All-Pro safety since Darren Sharper. Nick Collins made the Pro Bowl, but Pro Bowler and All-Pro are two different things.

But as I stated, with guys like Leonhard, Phillips, and Sharper in Free Agency who can't cost too much--I wouldn't miss Bigby too much. Rouse is a bigger guy who played linebacker in college, and he seems to have more of a nose for the ball. Who had the 90-yard interception against Peyton Manning? Rouse.

Bigby was unlucky with injuries, but I don't know why we rushed him back onto the field. When he came back, HE was the reason we lost that Titans game. When Bigby was on the field, I swear I thought I was watching Mark Roman with dreadlocks.

Even if Rouse doesn't pan out. There's free agency and there's the draft (Malcolm Jenkins, should he fall and safety really becomes a "need"). Maybe even all this talk about Charles Woodson becoming a safety will come into fruition (but I don't want Woodson playing safety.)
