Pay now or pay (more) later: Nick Perry's price tag keeps going up

It's going to be interesting deciding who to pay and how much. Perry seems to be attempting to get the Packers to pay him now (or the price will go up). My question still is... can he do it in a non-contract year?

That's a good question!
If we sign Nick to a big dollar long term contract, will we get the Nick we saw in the playoffs last year and to date this year or will we be hung with a Nick Perry we saw for the majority of his Packers career?
Only showing flashes and not being able to stay on the field.
It's a big gamble, but with Clay Matthews career winding down, it's a gamble the Packers should make.
The sooner the better probably.

I"d rather our starting OLB were Perry and Datone at this point than Clay and Peppers. Fackrell already looks pretty good for a rookie. If he can develop any and add some strength he might be dangerous too.

Clay and Peppers need to be ex-Packers after the season is over. That's a lot of bank that needs to be spread around.

He is basically getting 5mil for this year. How much more do you all think he is worth and what kind of deal is he worth? I read the team is sitting at about 8 mil in cap space yet this year. Does Ted renegotiate with Clay to free up some money to throw towards Perry to lessen how endloaded the contract would need to be if done before the end of the season.

The only risk with Perry are the injuries, but if the Packers think thats not a factor you gotta lock him up. He's the best OLB on the roster this season and one of the youngest.

What would be the cap hit if the Packers cut Mathews in the off-season? If they Sitton his ass the Packers probably have enough to resign all of their FAs.

My gut is they will re-do one if not both Clay and Rodgers this year, making both of them more cap friendly.

Clay Mathews is not much more than a MLB that can move around and rush the passer sometimes. He's an average OLB, at best, at this point. He does still have quickness and a nonstop motor, but he needs to be on the inside most of the time, where the Packers are actually somewhat crowded. I think he can still be an impact player on the inside, though, but not on the outside.

dfosterf (25m) : The white background beta was hard to read, especially the quotes

dfosterf (48m) : *Friday*
dfosterf (51m) : 100 million would be 539 million as of Fridsy

dfosterf (25-Jul) : It's my one day deal complaint dept. on shareholder meeting day
dfosterf (25-Jul) : Probably a homer access credential intimidation kinda thing
dfosterf (25-Jul) : Meathead "journalists" skip this, concentrating on operational revenue when convenient. They switch when net revenue is more favorable.
dfosterf (25-Jul) : Resulting in an actual drop of net revenue of 12.5%. She is from Minnesota. Just sayin'

dfosterf (25-Jul) : Did Savion Williams run into a goalpost or something?
Mucky Tundra (25-Jul) : also, no bueno when a guy starts getting concussions right off the bat in his career
Zero2Cool (25-Jul) : Concussion is worse. Banks probably vet off day via back booboo claim
Mucky Tundra (25-Jul) : @AndyHermanNFL Jordy Nelson out at camp today. No word if he’s in play for one of the two open roster spots ; )
dfosterf (25-Jul) : Is that better or worse than Banks bad back?
Zero2Cool (25-Jul) : Savion concussion ... not good.
packerfanoutwest (24-Jul) : Aaron Rodgers’s first pass of first team period was picked off
Mucky Tundra (24-Jul) : tbh I didn't hear of his passing
