I'd feel more confident in his punting ability if his professional career did not look like this (Summing up, he bounced around between 3 teams (Browns/Bucs/Jets) with tenures lasting days/weeks for the most part. Last year he was signed by the Bucs at the end of Training Camp (26 Aug), the other punters were cut by 1 Sep, and then he lasted all of 1 year at TB.):

Bottom line: Mathstay was not earning his contract anymore and costing his team quite a bit of field position with shanking punts. I wanted him cut 2 years ago.

I feel a lot more schumfortable about our punting situation.

Ted Thompson sits on his hands per former GM: "because they’ve had 25 fricking years of great quarterbacks. Of course it works. Try it without a special quarterback."

First impression of watching him in live game conditions its hard to say the wrong decision was made. He was very good at dropping the ball around the 10, had also seemed to have a very good hangtime to distance for coverage to get under the ball.

The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

You must have not actually watched him punt. Besides all punting stats being pretty much completely useless he left a pretty good first impression tonight. You have to watch them.

No one will be happier if he turns out to be an upgrade. I'm just skeptical about other teams casts-offs all of a sudden becoming our saviours (especially ones who couldn't beat out the punters on other teams who were unhappy with THEIR punters), and expect a Frost more likely than a Ray Guy.
