What do you guys think about this guy being in the middle in our 3-4? Every description I've seen of the 3-4 has said that your ILBs need to have size and need to be able to take on more Guard blocks than a conventional 4-3 MLB would. This is obviously because of the lack of another DT clogging up the O-line. Barnett, IMO, doesn't fit this role at all. Him also coming off a torn ACL is strike 2.

Obviously Bishop isn't as good in coverage as Barnett was, but I think I would sacrifice some coverage mistakes for a force in the middle of our defense.

Do you guys think he has a chance of starting next year or down the road in our new 3-4 defense?

I think Bishop is an inside linebacker in the 3-4. He's a very good run stopper.

He's 6-2 240 and that's comparable to Jerod Mayo whom is listed as 6-1 242.

Obviously in terms of the total package, Mayo is much better though.

Good question ...

When looking at both players height/weight the both are pretty much =
But when looking at the skill level of each player Barnett was a Awesome player. He was a MLB for a reason.

Barnett has had a long time for his ACL to heal. I'm going to have to assume he'll be gtg once the next season hits. The injury usually isnt too bad.

I think bishop is pretty good but not sure hes better then hawk and definately not barnett. Unless barnett wont be able to play.

We need some 'meatier' guys for our OLBers. Hopping we get at least 1 really good one to sit opposite kampman.

I see bishop more of a guy that comes in when barnett or hawk needs a break.

I think there should be some sort of a rotation...

Ye, I think he'll come in when Hawk gets tired or something. We can have Barnett as the second ILB, with his lack of size, but we need at least one big guy on the field at ILB, I can imagine.

But Bishop still isn't a great player. It amazes me that everyone seems to think that all our players will somehow become great in the new system. Bishop hasn't proven anythign for instance, or even worse, Hunter. He hasn't done a thing on the defense, except for running back.

I'm really not sure where Barnett and Chillar fit in the 3-4.

I think Hawk, Poppinga and Lansanah could fit anywhere in it.

Bishop is an ILB.

If Barnett or Chillar could take on a LT, I wouldn't mind trying them at ROLB but I'm not sure they can.

I just can't figure out where/if Barnett fits in this defense anymore.

I think Barnett might be the odd man out to be honest. Coming off that injury he is likely to be a step slower and I believe speed was his biggest asset.

I am not sure, I'm talking outta my ass here, but I think the two middle backers need to be more beefy to slam the shit out of the RB's and what not than the outside LB'ers.

I'm not sure if it's the "beef" per say because the Steelers, Ravens, Cowboys and Pats all have a starter ILB that's with in 7 pounds of Barnett (according to NFL.com).

But I think he more on how physical they play the game. I think Barnett has shown signs that he can be physical enough but I don't think he has shown the signs to be physical enough this last year.

I have complete faith in Barnett at MLB, my concern is the OLB opposite Kampman.... If we dont get a good pass rusher for that spot, this defense will not be what everyone is expecting it to be.
