Remember that one time I was right?

The tight end position is going to better because Jared Cook WILL sign with the GREEN BAY PACKERS.

The Packers under General Manager Ted Thompson are known for their patient approach to free agency, with patient a euphemism for what seems like open disdain. But they may be close to making their annual move. According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, former Rams tight end Jared Cook is in Green Bay and...

Good to see. Still think they should have pursued Ladarius Green, but this will at least offer some competition for Rodgers.

Was surprised that it was a one-year deal, though. Thought Ted Thompson didn't want to "rent" players (see R. Moss discussions). But like it nonetheless.

One signing of a second tier guy isn't going to stop my "crying about the Packers not signing free agents", though. Sorry.

Found this interesting. "Ted Thompson made an offer immediately following the March 14 visit, then they waited while Cook tried to see if there was any other interest." from Rob Demovsky. So the Packers immediately pulled the trigger and it took a FREE AGENT two weeks to agree. And here I thought went down more like, you see a player, ink them and win the Super Bowl. Who knew these things happened like this?

Dwayne Allen: 4yrs $30 million
Coby Fleener: 5yrs $36.5 million
Ladarius Green: 4yrs $20 million

Pretty clear the Packers will be getting the most return on their investment.

Check this out! I wonder if he can do this with Aaron Rodgers?

I mean yeah, Ted offered it right away, but that doesn't mean it was a blockbuster amount. Glad to see it worked out though!

This is exactly the kind of deal I was hoping Cook would sign, a 1-2 year incentive laden deal so hopefully we get the best from him. I bet when the details emerge Cook will probably make only 2 - 2.5m of that money and if he does make all 3.6 it'll be because he's having a pro bowl year and we're in the super bowl. Those are incentives I can live with 😎

To anyone who says he could flop, or was a douche on the sidelines with a previous QB - you could be right.

....but I'm still doing my happy dance. I wish this was for more than 1 year because next year is already a nightmare for F.A. with the OL, Lacy, and Datone, but whatever, this guy has the potential to be pretty darn impactful

Good deal. We needed a guy to stretch the middle of the field and this guy can do that.

I like this low risk move. My choice would have been Vernon Davis but Cook is younger. Great signing. The other bonus is that it gives us one more year to decide what we have in Richard Rodgers and Backman.

Low risk with the potential to add value at a needed position. I think Rodgers will make the best out of Cook. He can stretch the field down the middle and the safeties will have to decide to cover him or Jordy.
This will also stop teams from playing 1-high, which can help our run game. Skinny Eddie spinning around fools.

He is really filling the void left by Quarless more than being an upgrade from Rodgers.

I called up Ted Thompson to get his comments on the signing of Jared Cook. Here is what he had to say:
Cheesey: Ted, I just wanted to congratulate you on the signing of tight end, Jared Cook! That was a great move!
Ted:"Tight END??? I thought I was getting help for the cafeteria!!! A new COOK! What have I DONE!?!?"
😝 😂
