I clipped the following quote from Steve Biscotti, Ravens owner, from a PFT article about the Ravens, Terrell Suggs, Elvis Dumervil, etc.:

“We have two very dynamic, productive players that are at the age where you don’t know if you’re going to get one year or three years left in them,” Bisciotti said, via the team’s website. “We have to fill those spots with constant pressure. You need five pass rushers in the rotation.”

Got me thinking. How many "dynamic, productive" pass rushers do the Packers have that allow them to get "constant pressure"?

It seems to me that Biscotti is talking about trying to have more than players who get a sack here and there, or who have a good game here and there. In other words, it sounds like he means 5 players *above* the performance of Nick Perry/Mike Neal/RajiGuionPennel, et al.

What do the rest of you think?
How many above average pass rushers are in the Packers front seven rotation? Do you think the Packers agree and pursue player acquisition like Biscotti is advocating? Do you think they should? Why or why not?

(I'm sure people can guess where I'm going to come down, so I won't bother re-stating mine other than to say I shouted "Yes!!!" when I read the article.)
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Obviously there's Clay, assuming he's still got it (unproven) at OLB.

Mike Daniels, Raji was a penetrator, but is gone. Peppers picks his spots. Elliot seemed to get home in limited opportunities.

Perry got it done in the playoffs. Kind of a tease.

Neal is the ultimate "almost got there" type dude.

I'd LOVE to get an explosive attacking type dude. We've never had two.

The number that immediately came to my mind was 5, so I was glad to see that number in the article.
Obviously Clay, Peppers if he was able to play more downs, Daniels and Guion are ok.
So we have one in Clay and it's down hill from there.

I am curious whether Jayrone can get there? As Nerd pointed out the guy flashed amazing pressure in his limited opportunity. Is he a one trick pony? I am not sure, but if he can get home when we need him to put the pressure on who the heck cares.

How many pass rushers does a team need?

How ever many they can get!
Same goes for good coverage guys and good linemen.

But I think it's important to note that the Packers are really lacking linemen depth so far this year and Matthews is the only OLB currently sign for next year... so depth that can grow and become starters is very much needed.

Until Guion proves that he's the guy that can eat up the middle to allow our pass rushers to get there, this argument is pointless.

We haven't had anybody that could pick up Ryan Pickett's jockstrap in years.

In the aggressive 3-4 scheme, the Packers seem to be looking for penetrators more than run cloggers. So I'm guessing they're going to be looking at DTs more than NTs.
