Except when the rule is proven wrong by ARod having a truly horrendous, bottom-10 QB year and the packers made it to the playoffs and won a game. Our run game, defense and special teams aren't dominating, but they're solid. ARod never has been able to completely carry the team when the defense and special teams have been blowing the game (Arizona playoff loss in 2009). Run game, defense and special teams can't win the games when ARod has been completely blowing it. To pretend that Thompson has not put together a roster that can absolutely make it to the big game and win when they're firing on all cylinders is ludicrous.
No, I'm not implying that we can't do much better. I'm saying that one or two killer FAs won't win the Packers the super bowl if the defense, special teams, and offense aren't all playing at a high level. Which they are all quite capable of doing from a raw talent perspective. Injuries (which I still think is a training issue), coaching, and overall consistency are killers.
