That’s $2.75 million less than the Packers would have had to pay under the terms of the option, which means the market played out well for the team.

Beat me to it.

Good signing, imo. Now, Hayward, Starks and Raji!

Wow, great job Packers! Nick Perry is a talented player, he just needs to stay healthy. I'm glad to see him back. I'm frankly surprised he couldn't do better, though. When the guy is relatively healthy, he makes a difference on defense.

He's not an OLB, he's 4-3 defensive end with no coverage ability whatsoever. He does set the edge very well and is coming around in his pass rush abilities. The guy should have been drafted by the Bears and we should have had Shea McClellan, who's had to play out of position his whole career too. Funny what these teams do to players.

Decent signing - the one year deal is probably more about durability, before signing him long term.

I don't love the 1 year deal. Just kicking the can down the street to what will be a chaotic 2017 offseason.

Of course they could of just been matching another team or something, and Neal did have a four million per year deal before the cap went higher.

Also I'd like to have Hayward back (at least if the price is right). He's very good in the nickel role, and really teams play in nickel something like 70% of the time, and it seems to be going up. Plus while I normally really like Hyde, last year seemed to be an off year for him. Plus Hayward keeps Rollins in the dime role which he seemed to dominate at and gives us more CB depth.

Packers re-sign DE/OLB Nick Perry (1 year, $5 million): C+ Grade

Based on his production, Nick Perry would have been more suited being the 228th pick in the 2012 NFL Draft rather than the 28th. He hasn't recorded more than four sacks in any of his four NFL seasons, and while statistics are sometimes misleading, his tape backs up his lack of production. He just sucks.

I didn't think Perry would return for 2016, but the Packers have decided to bring him back for one more year. It's not the worst idea in the world. Perry is still only 25, so there's a chance he could be a late bloomer. Plus, he's not terrible in run support, so having him around for depth is fine. I wouldn't have given him $5 million for one season, but the Packers aren't taking any sort of risk.

If he lights it up this year, Ted will extend him before the season is over to a "TT Special" type contract.

It will look like a blockbuster at the time, two years later it will look bargain basement.

Perry had a coming out party last year; very effective when he was in there. Great 1 yr prove it again type deal.

Seriously?

He has a couple good games and he's worth 5 million?

What's next? Eight million for Mike Neal?

Got a kick out of this from Spotrac

Nick Perry signed a 1 year, $5,000,000 contract with the Green Bay Packers, including an average annual salary of $5,000,000
