When Newton fumbled in the fourth quarter, with the game on the line, he oddly appeared to pull back, rather than fall on the football into the middle of a scrum.

Why didn’t he fight harder for the ball? He didn’t answer that question after the game, hastily rushing out of his post-game press conference without saying much of anything.



Last year we saw Burnett get what seemed to be a game clinching INT. Then Peppers waved him to GO DOWN, GO DOWN!

It seemed to paranoid types such as myself that this team was TERRIFIED to score any more points. Almost like they wanted to win, but not cover the spread.

Now we see this situation, which IMO is also suspicious.

When I watch what happened on that play, it looked to me like Cam was going for the ball to try and pick it up rather than dive on it, and when he realized others where diving on it he was right on top of it and not in a good position to dive on it anymore.

I think this is getting blown out of proportion same as some wanted to blow Burnett getting down out of proportion also.

Watching Live and the Replay, I thought he felt the best bet was to let it bounce and react and it's easier to do that if you're on your feet. It didn't look good though. I just won't be shaming him for it.

I think a guy that can accept the MVP of the league trophy, can also accept criticism when he plays like a bucket of ass. Both teams were garbage on offense, Denver's defense won that game. Newton was getting ripped all week about his on field celebrations, and it seems like there was some kind of agenda to tear him down. He certainly didn't help himself after the game by walking out of a press conference where he was being hyenad. I'm sure he'll figure it all out on a beach somewhere this offseason. LOL

I don't get it......the guy gets beat around like a pinyata all game. He PROVED he's not afraid of contact. So why are all those second guessing him piling on? He MAYBE would have been able to get the ball. But looking at the play and how the ball was knocked out of the pile after the first contact, I think he had a better chance of getting the ball by seeing where it flew out of the group.
That's just my view of the play.
Denver's defense beat the crap out of the guy. I put the blame of that on Carolina's O-line.
Newton is young, and hopefully for his sake, learns from this.
I'm more "upset" at the way he handled himself at the post game press conference. If you are going to be a good winner, you should also show some class when you lose. He didn't, in my view.

He doesn't speak very well, but I understand what he is saying and I think it follows what I posted. He went after the ball like he was going to pick it up. He should have dove on it right away as they teach from the beginning of playing football in high school or before but he didn't. Once he realized he wasn't going to just be able to pick it up, he really wasn't in position to dive after the ball, it would have been more of a flop down. He did reposition himself and attempted to get it once it was batted around.

Gotta learn to sometimes just accept the criticism, admit screwing up and move on.

My first instinct when I saw it was that his body, particularly his left leg, might not have been in a position that would have made it easy to dive for the ball. I'm sure we have all had instances where we make a step and try to move in one direction but we can't because our body simply wants us to move in another. I'm not going to watch it again because we all know that 99.9% of the people have made up their minds and nothing is going to change them and I don't care to argue it.

I will say that on the surface it certainly could be taken as if he simply backed away but I'm not Cam Newton so I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Say what you will about him I'll bet the vast majority of Broncos fans would trade Osweiler for Newton straight up in a heartbeat and the vast majority of probably at least 20 other teams would trade their QB for him as well.
