So, Datone Jones sucks at DE for the first few years of his career...

What do we do? Let's hybrid him to DE/OLB so he can suck at TWO positions. No, don't think to actually improve the OLB position ...just move a scrub DE out there to make two positions weak.

His position is 4-3 defensive end. Unfortunately he was drafted by a team attempting to play a 3-4 defense. Just another square peg forced into a round hole.

Why, why, why do we do things like this? Mike Neal playing OLB. Julius Peppers OLB at end of his career after never playing the position.

I think it's because Ted doesn't like to admit he found drafted another 1st round bust. Hmmm, let's see how he does if he gets moved out to OLB? Hey, we'll try anything to try not to get next to nothing out of yet another 1st round defensive pick.

Just what they are doing with him. Pass rushing DE. I would like to see him work on quickness and add about 10lbs of muscle so he can pass rush next to Daniels.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

This staff also likes to save roster spots with versatility. That's why they only carry 7 offensive linemen on the active roster.

Trying him out at OLB seems to be a low-risk option. If he doesn't work out at OLB, then cut him.

My expectation is they are unsure if Peppers is coming back and they are trying to cover their bases.

It also could be used as a negotiating ploy with Neal, Perry and/or Peppers. It is interesting this is announced at the same time CM3 is said to be going outside.

The move worked out well for Peppers and Neal and I think Jones is much more fluid and athletic than Neal.

It may also be a statement of what we have in Ringo and expected leaps for Boyd and Pennell.
