I received a call New Years Day from Rebecca's mother informing me that she just had a seizure and she was heading to where Rebecca was at and would probably arrive before the ambulance. That was all she knew, therefore all I knew. It is such a helpful and infuriatingly frustrating feeling knowing your child is hurting and you are absolutely powerless to help. I was fighting back the tears because her older sister was home and I didn't want to frighten her. It took a few minutes to regroup and then I told her what I knew. I thought about hopping into the car and making the 50 minute drive, but remembered her mother saying she would have Rebecca transported to Green Bay so chances are I would have been on the highway the same time and missed her. I was left to wait.

I then turned my focus on trying to learn about seizure's and what causes them and consequences of them. An hour or so later her mother calls and says Rebecca had been awake for about 10-15 minutes when she started playing with one of those flashing light toys and that's when she had the seizure, fell and hit her head. I was somewhat relieved that this was induced by a flashing light toy rather than just a random seizure. Those scare the living hell out of me because they are impossible to predict.

Rebecca's mom brought her to the hospital in Green Bay a few hours later to have some tests done and everything was positive and as it should be.

We now have several appointments throughout the next few weeks to have a physical and EEG (whatever that is) administered and then towards the end of the month we evaluate the EEG results.

What I'm curious about is if any of you have any experience with seizures and are their things we should be looking for or prepare for or ... anything really because I'm really in the dark. I've tried asking the clinic, but they talk really fast and with a ton of abbreviations that just make no sense to me at all. Thanks.

I have no medical training or knowledge to offer, but my thoughts and prayers are yours. That sounds like a literal nightmare. Stay strong.

Mia had a seizure one night while were still in intensive care after her brain tumor surgery. It really wasn't a very big deal compared to what we had just gone through, and then she never had another one, so I never did any research on it.

Sorry Kev, hopefully it's a one time thing and not something like epilepsy. But whatever you find out, take a little solace in that the doctors are learning more about the brain all the time. Keep us updated.

My sister had one once, about 25 years ago after having the flu and being dehydrated. We were told it was just a bizarre one-time occurrence, which it turned out to be. She's never had one since.

Praying it's nothing serious.

If it's caused by a flashing red light it could very well be epileptic related.

Children have convulsions all the time due to fever. That's no big deal. The thing I would worry about is the relation of the flashing light. There are treatments of course. Nourish blood and liver yin. How old is she?

Thanks everyone.

It was white light, not sure if that matters and she's 12 years old.

I'm beginning to wonder if she didn't eat enough because whenever she comes home she's always hungry like a moose. I'm curious if just waking up 10 or so minutes prior and having an empty stomach could have played any roles. She has seemed like herself lately and no noticeable changes in mood or behavior or anything like that.

Kevin, I know you can't help but worry. That's part of being a parent. I will pray it's nothing serious.

I know that most video games have warnings about seizures, so she might just have been extra sensitive to the flashing light.

They will do all the tests and most likely will be able to narrow down what caused it.
As far as you asking the clinic people about it, don't be embarrassed to tell them to slow down and make the explanations more understandable to you. They have to realize you are not a doctor, you are scared and it affects your ability to comprehend what they are telling you.

Kevin, I have no knowledge to share, as my ignorance of seizures is profound. My prayers and thoughts are with you and Rebecca, however.

All my best.

I didn't mention this before, but, even medical opinions by doctors might not be the end all in explaining this seizure. In our experience with Mia, the only real expert is an MRI of the brain. If you have good referrals and decent health coverage, I would ask for an MRI just to do all the proper diligence.

Mia's pediatrician told us she would grow out of her headaches, she didn't, her neurologist said medication would take care of the problem, it didn't. We finally had the MRI done, which we asked for at the pediatrician level I might add, and it showed us our worst nightmare.

I guess my point is, just because a person holds a medical degree, doesn't mean they can't be dumbasses and lazy as fuck. Go with what your gut tells you on this one. Seizures just don't happen because of nothing.

beast (12-Aug) : I believe Musgrave has been injured every single season since at least a Sophomore in highschool
packerfanoutwest (12-Aug) : Matt LaFleur: “Highly unlikely” Jordan Love plays more this preseason
dfosterf (12-Aug) : Doubs, Savion Williams, LVN, Musgrave all banged up to one degree or another, missing one here I forget

Zero2Cool (9-Aug) : Woo-hoo
TheKanataThrilla (9-Aug) : NFL Network is broadcasting the game tonight, but not in Canada. Not sure why as no local television is showing the game.
beast (8-Aug) : But the Return from IR designations had to be applied by the 53 man cutdown.
beast (8-Aug) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
