I was kind of surprised to read this. Not that I paid that much attention, but he seemed to be having a respectable year on a clearly ascending franchise...thought he might want to stick it out a little more.

Either way, what a player he was throughout his career. It's hard to imagine the Packers could have won the SB w/o his skills and leadership.

So thankful for his time as a Packer and glad he stuck around to play us as a Raider.

Weird timing for the announcement and I wonder if him playing the Packers and having a chance to say goodbye to the boys mentally put him in the position to walk away from the game?

I guess with Woodson retiring now, should we discuss him getting put into the ring of honor or his number retired? The guy was basically the leader of our defense for a good 5+ seasons and won his DPOTY and SB ring with us. For a few years he and Al Harris were probably one of the better CB duos in Green Bay history. He's definitely a lock for the hall, but I'm interested to see how much he'll get honored in Green Bay.

That said, I don't see Wood's # getting retired. Reggie (and Burt) resuscitated the franchise from decades of flatlining. Wood gave it a jolt of caffeine.

Hell of a player here, and elsewhere. Belongs in the NFL HOF first ballot, but IMO he should just be in the Packer HOF, not have his # retired.

Last night as I watched the pre-game interviews , and hearing Charles Woodson talk about his time as a member of the Green Bay Packers and his time as a Michigan Wolverine, I found myself wishing Charles was still a member of the Green Bay Packers.
Perhaps, if he had retired as a member of the Packers, there would have been a groundswell of fan support to place his name on the ring of honor.

What a great moment. Woodson left it all out there every time. I've been rooting for the Raiders all season. They are kind of like the dark horse of the league and as a metalhead I am attracted to that. I'm going to miss Woodson playing, but it is obvious that his kids have missed him at home even more than we could possibly miss him on the field. Go home Woodson! We love you man!
