I'm sure we all remember their drive in the 3rd quarter, where they ran ball down the Packers throat and scored. There were only 4 plays on that drive and it was Turbin for 6, then McFadden for 29, then Turbin for 22, and finally Turbin straight up the gut, untouched for 7yds, touchdown. Their next drive they started out passing and went 3 and out. The next time they had the ball their plays were run for 5, run for 5, incomplete pass, run for 6, and then on the next play, Clay sacked Cassel, which was the beginning of the end for the visiting team. Their running game was working and they gave up on it for some reason. McCarthy has been known to do that too, he did it Sunday when Lacy was running well, but he tried to get fancy and run Cobb 4 times in a row.

You're giving the defense looks, not only this week, but in the future. If I'm not mistaken on Starks' TD they faked the toss to Cobb left and swung it to Starks. It's something else to defend against. Additionally, the worst you're doing is putting the ball in a playmakers' hands. Hell, maybe we should try this with cult hero Jeff Janis!

4 times in a row was a bit excessive IMO but 2 or 3 definitely makes the defense play honest. Towards the end of the game they were selling out against Lacey, if they have to worry about the ball going to Cobb then it keeps them honest.

my point was why did Dallas abandon the running game? it was working.

When teams are down they can quickly give up the run for the big pass imo. Especially after the last drive in which as you said they easily ran it down the Packers throat in 4 plays, I would bet Capers had dialed up some different packages with more players in the box.

I'm not sure I'd say their running game was working THAT well but you are right, it was doing better than their passing game. The thing is unless you are going to run on every down you have to throw the ball and if you can't complete passes and commit stupid penalties you are going to get some long yardage situations where you have to pass.
