I have to agree with Pete on this one.

This line in particular caught my eye........
"The Steelers get it.

They know drafting is the way to success. That's how you sustain good football teams that will compete for titles."

Hmmm........could Ted Thompson have it right???
Of course only time will tell. But he's building the Packers, and i see a bright future. There ARE holes that need to be filled, but you can't fill them all in just a couple of years. I think this off season will be VERY telling on which way the Packers are headed.

Wow, someone agrees.

I was just get annoyed by how the announcers kept calling the Steelers the winningest and best franchise ever. If I recall correctly, even Goodell did, but I'm not sure about that, because there where all kinds of people talking on BBC.

Anyway, as for the modern era, I also agree with him. The Steelers have been amazing ever since the AFL and NFL merged.

As for the last decade, I have to go for the Patriots.

Yes, for the past decade, there's no question. The Patriots have been the best team in the NFL.

I still think they are one of the best, just wait until they get Brady back, they'll be even better. (That is, if his knee is still good)

I have my doubts that his knee will be all that good, at least not until midseason earliest. ACL replacement is pretty serious surgery, and they say 6-9 months. Maybe. But the surgery was delayed while they waited for his MCL to heal first, adding to the time, and the addition of infection is another concern.

I have had the same injury. It's not an easy road back.

Oh, and regarding the original article? Packers over time. Steelers in the late 70s. Patriots in the early 2000s. Can't disagree.

The Steelers definitily have it right. Build through the draft, and fill in holes through free agency. You cant do it how the packers do, and only use the draft. Likewise, you cant do it how the cowboys try, and build their team through free agents. its gotta be that perfect combo.

The Packers winning the Super Bowl would result in them being the greatest franchise. The media reacts on emotion and not logic.

With that said though I do think that the Packers and Steelers are clearly the best two franchises in the history of the NFL. I would probably put the Cowboys, Bears, and Giants to round out the top five.

Not that it would have mattered, probably....but still wondering why that "fumble" wasn't looked at. But yes, kudos Steelers!

Lots of history, with lots of good players and titles throughout it. Good, wide fanbase, favorable public opinion and community support from the team itself.

Given those criteria, it's hard to identify one franchise as "best", but I suppose those five teams could be called "great".

For "best" you have to quantify. How many world titles? How many Hall-of-Famers? How many infamous games?, etc.

Tradition or history

Hall of Famers

Ownership

Championships

Fanbase

Great games count too

It is really tough, but I just think GB and Pittsburgh stand in a class of their own.
